If you can find a copy marked 2008 when it was at a film festival thats the original version. At least thats when i saw it. Of note, they added that daytime haunting to the theater version as well.

I'm probably alone in this, but personally liked the first one best anyway besides
    Spoiler
IMO it fit the movie better.

I didn't like either actually. I couldn't really get interested in the movie.

I don't feel like creating a new thread right now for lack of interest I'm sure, but I'm seeing Paranormal Activity 2 tomorrow night. I've pretty much avoided everything but a once-over of the teaser trailer, which I don't think there's really been more than that anyway but that's a good thing. The less we know, the better.

I watched the first one and was extremely disappointed, I won't be seeing the second one based on that alone. It also doesn't help that they have a baby in this one, and having a little one of my own it kind of creeps me out a bit. Yeah, I'm weird.

            Re: Paranormal Activity

I LOVED Paranormal Activity. Loved it, especially the original version (can we get that on DVD please!).

Anyway..with 2, I don't know. I know a lot about the plot and feel this will be a disaster. Also, like Dirty Turtles above, the movie involves a 3 month old being tormented. No thanks, I probably won't ever see it.

Only click if you want details about the 2nd one, not spoilers per say, but gives away the plot.

            Spoiler

EDIT - Just got an email from a friend who saw it last night. His urging was for me to see it since I loved the first one so much. He knows my feelings on kids used like that in movies and told me I should still see it. His exact words were "better than the first, scarier than the first".

So maybe I will see it. LOL

              Re: Paranormal Activity

Personally I'm glad they are going to have the spirit involve the baby and the dog. That's what cinema should be about, exploring new areas and not just re-treading the same old ground like 98% of Hollywood does today. In real life do you think spirits and demons give a crap if it's a kid or a dog? No... and remember, it's just a movie so why are you letting it upset you in that fashion.

As for what you said the plot was about, that's not at all what I've read but I'm not saying you're wrong. From what I read the second movie takes place after Katie has disappeared. Her sister and her family move in the house and have no idea what happened to Katie. Katie makes periodic appearances leaving the audience to guess if she's real and possessed or simply a ghost.

Either way, I can't wait to see the film. I've seen the first one 4 times already (my g/f loves it) and each time it's still very scary, probably the scariest Hollywood movie since The Exorcism of Emily Rose. I'm hopeful the second one doesn't show too many special effects and instead relies on the power of the imagination like the first one did.

Also, just a note, I've had paranormal experiences and have lived through some things that happened in the first movie. I suppose that may be why I find the movie so disturbing. I think most of the folks who thought the first movie was a waste of time either have never had paranormal experiences or simply don't believe in them. Because if you've had some experiences before then seeing that movie is probably going to scare the stuffing out of you.

EG, I dunno, I'm reading previews now and all of them say that the timeline in relation to the two movies is what makes the movie great and they won't give it away so honestly I am not going to dwell on it. Frankly it doesn't really matter either way in regards to the effectiveness of the movie. This is a horror movie, not a heist movie so the plot isn't really the center.

I still don't really understand why people like yourself though find that if the movie involves a young child and/or a dog you won't see it as it's wrong to do so. Of course it's wrong, that's what makes the movie disturbing. The greatest horror movie of all time involved the possession of a young girl (The Exorcism). Horror movies deal in fear and the fear of our children or our pets being messed with is probably the greatest fear of all. Frankly that's what horror movies should be about IMO, taking what should be off limits and smashing those conventions to bits.

But I know you have kids and I do not so I will respect yours and others decision. I just don't understand it and possibly never will.

If you don't have kids you wouldn't.

Exoricist isn't even a close comparision to a 3 month old.

The baby in PA2 is 3 months old at the start of the film.

Yes, I understand that a demon wouldn't care per say, but it's not something I want to see.

I'm looking forward to seeing this one, hopefully I can get my wife to go. She enjoyed the first one, but she gets freaked out easily and it messed with her for a few nights.

I agree with you that it is disturbing with the 3 month old..........so I am hoping nothing happens to the baby or else I won't bother with the second one. When it comes to babies and horror, that is where I draw the line. One month ago we had to bury my 1 day old nephew, so I can't take any crazy things happening to babies in a movie at this point.

I even have a hard time with children as zombies, like in the newer 2005 Dawn of the Dead film........
