    Official Android Discussion Thread

I just wanted to discuss and share a few things with the DROID!

    Apps - Here are mine:

Locale - After the update, this app has worked wonders. It changes your settings (wallpaper, ringer, volume, etc) depending on your location via the GPS.

ShopSavvy - Scan any barcode and look for the cheapest price of the item online and/or locally.

Where - App that tells you restaurants, hotels, gas prices depending on your GPS location.

Shazam - "Listens" to a song and tells you the name and artist.

Ringdroid - Cuts and MP3 and turns it into a ringtone. Very Nice!

FartDroid - As dumb as it sounds, its pretty damn funny!

GMote - Cool app that lets you turn your phone into a mouse, and gives you the ability to control your desktop or laptop.

WiFi Analyzer - Does it what the name says. It recommended me changing my channels, I did, and my network is running alot faster.

A few others worth mentioning: AK Notepad, Bubble (Level app), Compass, Rehearsal Assistant (Voice recorder and more)

I also wanted to share some wallpapers with you guys.. Hopefully you like em. I didn't create these, but I did resize it to fit the Droid perfectly. Enjoy!

(To install Wallpapers, Create a folder on your SD card labeled "Wallpapers" and throw all of them in there. Then go to Gallery, view the Wallpapers folder and assign the picture you want as your wallpaper)

      I can't wait for an auto-tune app.

I love saving the soundboards to use as ringtones too.

Thanks for the wallpapers. I installed the last one and it looks great.

Some apps that I'm using (that haven't been mentioned):

Places Directory - I use Where as well and they are somewhat similar.

Astro - file manager let's you manage the files and directories on your phone and SD card.

NESoid and SNESoid - Nintendo and Super Nintendo emulators

Cardio Trainer - Keeps track of workouts. Great for running outside since it keeps track of your route via GPS and acts as a pedometer. I also use My Tracks which keeps elevation gain as well which will be great for hiking.

aCar - Keeps track of maintenance, fuel economy and more for your car.

Update on the camera autofocus issue:

Yes, this is exactly what is happening.

There's a rounding-error bug in the camera driver's autofocus routine (which uses a timestamp) that causes autofocus to behave poorly on a 24.5-day cycle. That is, it'll work for 24.5 days, then have poor performance for 24.5 days, then work again.

The 17th is the start of a new "works correctly" cycle, so the devices will be fine for a while. A permanent fix is in the works.

The camera is working great after the update. The focus is alot better (always getting green corners) and pictures are coming in crisp from all lengths. The only thing that sucks is that the flash is so bright..

Regular with a 2 year contract is normally $299 with a $100 mail-in rebate (if you order online at verizonwireless.com they have an instant rebate.)

I got mine for $150. $100 instant rebate + $50 New Every Two discount.

Played with both, without a doubt like the HTC version better than the Motorola. Just feels better, easier to navigate, and seems to be a nicer phone. That's only from my 30-45 minutes of playing with both though.

Let me know if you get it and tell us how it is.

From what I heard, both are fairly similar. Few difference's you might see is:

Droid's screen is much better than the Eris.
Eris has a better sense UI.

but the main things I've heard about that made me go with the MotoDroid are:

Battery life on the Droid last alot longer than the Eris.
Processor on the Droid is much faster, Apps open faster.
No Flash on the Eris camera (but the droid's flash is too bright!)

I also heard the signal strength and call quality are better on the Droid. But then again, this could be related to the Verizon Network.

Also I keep hearing that since Google is promoting this Droid and Android2.0 really hard, more apps will be compatible with the Droid than the Eris.. again, this is speculation only.

So I'm anxious to hear your reports. When the Droid was first announced, and then the HTC version was announced to a smaller audience, alot of people said the Eris would be better. But I still stuck with the MotoDroid, and I can honestly say this is easily the best phone I've ever had. No problems with it what so ever!

Eventually all Android phones will move up to 2.0, but apparently when that happens is dependent on a particular phone's carrier.

I just got my Droid yesterday. The screen is absolutely amazing. I think it has twice the resolution of my iphone.

Has anyone done much with the navigation app yet? It's been very accurate for me so far in the Boston area. One thing I'm not a big fan of is that it doesn't seem to save your route if you switch to another app. I also would like to be able to save recent addresses and favorite addresses without having to add them to contacts. I might just be doing something wrong though.

it should keep your route going as long as you hit Home to get out, instead of actually hitting menu then exit. as far as the address storage goes, at least on my g1, it keeps recent addresses stored kind of like how a computer will keep your google searches saved, where you hit the first number/letter in the name and it gives you a drop down of previous searches.
