I'm still going to purchase a new set within the next 2 weeks and I also have been looking at the LG's, but when it comes to Plasmas' they say Panny is the brand to get. They are suppose to be better then the rest. I myself donlt care, I like LG and will most likely get another LG.

Re: Looking for a new TV, suggestions?
I apologize for asking so many questions, but I really am clueless when it comes to TVs and want to get the best deal possible. I think I've narrowed it down to one of these two, but I was wondering which one would be the better deal. Or is there a better value out there for a 37" TV that I should look into?

Re: Looking for a new TV, suggestions?
Samsungs are almost always better than similarly priced Vizios.
On paper, these 2 are similar but the Sammy has 1 extra HDMI port.
The main thing you want to look at is refresh rate (the lower the better). The sammy is 6ms which is above average....the refresh rate for the Vizio is 8ms which is average
If money was no object I'd get the Sammy--hands down.
With www.bing.com/cashback the sammy and vizio are virtually the same priceN.Y Mets

Re: Looking for a new TV, suggestions?
bag em and tag em.
Congrats.
Couldn't resist, so I went ahead and hooked up the LG. So far, so good. Nice picture, hooked up to Directv HD box. It's black levels aren't as good as my parent's Panny plasma.
Loving the usb connection.
About to try out Sin City on blu ray.Last edited by GAMEC0CK2002; 11-28-2009, 12:22 AM.Comment

Re: Looking for a new TV, suggestions?
Game, you seem to be the resident expert and I'd love to hear more of your impressions on the Plasma LG you just bought (link - I know you bought the 720P...I like the 1080P more and I wouldn't need the extra HDMI port) - I'm looking real hard at it myself.
I've heard that if you watch a lot of sports then Plasma is the way to go b/c the refresh rate nearly eliminates the motion blur but I also play a lot on my PS3 so I'm not sure if there are any effects that could arise. What are some of the drawbacks compared to the LCD?Last edited by Speedy; 11-28-2009, 12:34 AM.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Anywhoo...For these newer plasmas, no real concerns if you use common sense. Burn in (which is permanent image retention) used to be the thing to worry about. You'd have to deliberately try and make that happen nowadays. More likely to see some image retention that is temporary if you leave a static image on your plasma for a long time. Can take anywhere from a couple minutes to an hour to go away completely. Today's plasma have pixel orbiters to cut down the chances of IR drastically. You should be fine gaming on a plasma. (Note: this is referring to the brand name plasmas--LG, Panny, Sammy--can't vouch for the others)
There is some debate on whether or not you should "break-in" a new plasma. And if so, for how long. I'm doing just to be on the safe side by making sure I lower the contrast, take it off vivid mode and making sure all the viewing fills the entire screen.
I'm going for 100 hours (approx. a month) then it should be good to go.
The PQ on the Sin City blu ray is impressing me. Blacks and contrasts are holding up well despite the lowered settings.Last edited by GAMEC0CK2002; 11-28-2009, 12:53 AM.Comment

Re: Looking for a new TV, suggestions?
When I was at Walmart today during my lunch break at 2pm, I seen 13 people returning plasma tvs that they bought at 5am because the picture went out on them and they couldnt see anything at all. They were the Emerson, Samsung, and Sanyo plasmas they had on sale from $350 to $598. I was thinking damnnnnnnn that is a lot of plasmas being returning already.
I seen 8 people returning the 32 inch Vizio tv too they had for $398. Needless to say it was a lot of cursing going on in the electronic department at Walmart from angry customers.Comment

There was only a $100 difference between the Sanyo and most of the brand name plasmas. Works out to less than 30 cents a day for one year.Comment

I believe it was 400 model number, I just know it was something Walmart dont normally carry in store. The only plasma they carry year round in store is the Sanyo 50 inch plasma for $698Comment
