But the thing is, Apple is a company I could see withholding the iPhone from Verizon specifically because of that ad campaign. I mean, I understand that idea too... it was basically an attack on Apple.

Apple is a smart company that makes business decisions without making it personal. They realize VZW was attacking AT&T and the exclusivity more than the iPhone itself. I seriously doubt they would turn down the chance to service 91 million people because they were mad about a commercial last Christmas.

Yea. I'll just have to wait and see. Knowing Apple they will have something I never even expected. Certainly going to be interesting.

Obviously, we have two different views of Apple. Anyway, I think the "iDon't" campaign for the Droid was directly attacking the iPhone and Apple (although probably launched by Google), and then the similar campaign about ATT/VZW 3G coverage was about Verizon vs ATT.

Read this article, as it sums up my viewpoint very well: http://www.networkworld.com/news/200...n.html?hpg1=bn

Verizon, which negotiated for rights to the iPhone before its release, certainly seems an unlikely Apple partner now. Stranger things have happened, but Apple has a long memory for slights and it is hard to imagine an iPhone in Verizon's future.

If they announce an iPhone for VZW today, I'll be buying it as fast as humanly possible. I know it's not as good a phone per say as my Blackberry, but with the apps and an all in one device that I want, it suceeds so far past the Droid or Blackberry.

Have an iPhone 3Gs and it's solid. I just don't see why I'd want that on a touchscreen myself. I think their OS is slacking when it comes to the swipes and gestures. The phone is great but is still a bit overrated because it does lack a bit of responsiveness when I'm trying to read a page, scroll, or zoom in at times. I'm sure they'll clean it up. Won't knock that. Just not as interested if it works like it does on my phone.

                    No kids I presume?

The idea of the iphone across all platforms leaves AT&T with a problem of trying to make up for the little advantage they had there.. and their customer service is so horrible they'll have to do something huge.

I like my iPod touch, but I'm not gonna drop 1k on a tablet that's not as good as a laptop. I have my laptop set up next to my couch on a nice ikea laptop stand and it's working just fine for my general computer needs. If I'm home, I don't want to sit watching movies on a smaller screen...

I usually just used my iPod touch as an iPod, when traveling to watch movies, and surf the net with wifi when away from home. Now I just surf the net on the Droid when away from home...

I just honestly don't know what the tablet really offers for the general consumer. I'm very interested to see exactly what Apple offers and how they push it, but IMO they have a uphill battle on their hands. Your average person isn't gonna say "damn, I want one"...yeah, the early adopters will be all over it, but does Sally Websurfer really need a tablet?

Scott, yeah I have rent but i can manage it. Honestly I never really spend any money except on gadgets like this (and games, although that's taken a big hit in the last few months since fall).

mgoblue - I think the intent of this device is not to replace one device but to replace many. So for instance when you go on a trip you don't take your iphone, your 15" laptop and your e-reader, you simply take your islate. this device will also appeal to the teenagers and younger people who like the simplicity of it's interface for surfing the net and having their music and videos with them. a lot of computing power on laptops is wasted on such folks. And if I think about what I mostly use my PC for it's for the things that the islate will do, although I'm fortunate enough to still have a regular PC (or 3) in case I do want to do some more PC-intensive things. but don't understimate the ease of simplicity and jack-of-all-trades this type of device will bring to the table for consumers, especially younger ones. that's why it will be a hit IMO (and many others).

as for me, i'm interested in it as a sketching/artistic device and for surfing the net on a readable, but much smaller (even than my Macbook air) device. i was looking at buying a tablet type computer a long time ago (like a year ago) to draw and do art work on (i don't like tablets that you attach to a pc, it's unnatural to draw on one thing and see the results on another) but I held out when I heard about this islate device by Apple so i'm hopeful that this is decent for this sort of thing.

Count me out then...I'm not gonna replace my phone on a trip with some large tablet that's really not that portable. While I'm on my vacations I like having my phone on me.

Nor do I have any desire to have another 30ish a month for internet I'd rarely use. Really, I work. Then after work I'm either home or out doing something with friends or family. On weekends it's the same...it's not like I'm constantly out and about wanting to surf the web and watch videos.j

I understand what you're saying...it's just that the device could appeal to people constantly traveling and not wanting a laptop around, but that then cuts out pretty much all business people who also need to do work on their computers...I understand the artistic aspect, but that's not really a large segment of the population who would use it like that...

I'm just skeptical right now...tons of tablets have failed because they couldn't really make a big enough niche in the market...Throw in the obvious "Apple tax" that will make this more expensive than most people want to pay (I've read some iSlate discussion articles that say most people wouldn't want to spend more than 700, and a lot don't want a monthly fee either), and I'm not convinced.

We'll see though, I could be wrong. For 1k you can get a pretty decent laptop...how is this really that much better? They'll have to convince me that a touchscreen keyboard is actually comfortable too, otherwise you have to lug around a regular keyboard and the portable nature is out the window. Every touch keyboard I've used has been somewhat frustrating (iPhone included).

I'll also comment that you're a tech guy, and probably somewhat of an early adopter, so it makes sense you'd want it (part of me wants it too cause it's shiny and new lol)....We just saw the iPod and iPhone go on a tear through the entire population, and I just don't see the iSlate having anywhere near that level of popularity.
