Re: Apple media event - 1/27

So its another all in one device? What kind of battery power does this work on...iphone similar or is there an external power source? Battery life comes into play, is it wifi or a pay by month web fee like a netbook?

Well as for me i'm not going to use it as a phone in that sense, i'll use it on wi-fi and use skype or one of the apps that allow it to be used as a phone, if i even use it that way at all. I'm not paying money for a monthly bill no matter who the provider is. I get my cell phone for free but i'm not up for adding another $30-40 to my monthly bills either.

As for how is it better than a decent laptop at that price..I think you all need to get it out of your head that this is a laptop. It should not really be compared to a laptop. It's an ipod, an iphone, e-reader, websurfing device and artistic sketch device. In other words more of a multimedia device than a PC.

I agree about the keyboard, i have read they will allow you to use an external one though like probably bluetooth like the Macbook Air does. Or maybe USB too.

Actually the reason it's not coming out today and instead in March-June is that they are working on battery life. As for the e-reader aspect, no one really knows but i'm sure it'll function like the ipod touch does and allow you to use your wi-fi to download books and you pay for each book. Then for newspapers you probably pay a monthly fee to that newspaper to get it and it downloads automatically to your islate each day. That's just my opinion but I"ll bet that is how it's handled.

Then essentially it's a big iPod touch or iPhone...i dunno, just personally don't see a need for it in my life, and my sentiments echo what a lot of tech columnists are writing. Apple could definitely surprise us all, but I just don't see the average soccer mom needing a iSlate....

I'm not hating on you or anything...it does look cool Just enjoy a good conversation about pros/cons, you're bringing up good points and none of us knows exactly what Apple's delivering, so I may have to rush out and buy one if it's that awesome

I just got a Pre+ for Verizon, if they announce the iPhone will be avail for Verizon then I will definitely be making a return.

Agreed. Based on everything I've read in this thread, it's going to be a rather useless product. But I'm sure Apple has something in store for us to make me think otherwise.

I don't think it would be useless even at about $800.

You gotta figure, it could hold your entire music, movie, and book collection all in one place.

We've seen what developers have done with the app store, I imagine they could create some pretty amazing apps for an apple tablet.

Even if they do announce the iPhone for VZW I doubt I'll get one for a few years. I've had my Droid for 2 months and am extremely happy with it.

Maybe it's because I don't read on my computer... I don't know. And I don't see the need to replace my iPhone (hypothetically speaking... I don't actually have the money for an iPhone) with something that huge sometimes.

Just a few minutes until Go Time. I'm more interested in any iPhone related news (new OS, new version, and what carriers). The tablet probably has zero relevance to me unless it prints money or employs some other awesome feature that no other product has.

The big thing keeping me from e-readers is the fact that I enjoy reading books for free from the library. I don't want to pay 20 bucks to read something I can check out for free...
