Very interesting indeed. The protection of their revenue streams seems spot on when you really think about it IMO. I like Apple products (own quite a few), but I just hate the fact that they dictate every single thing in regards to their hardware/software.

Yea I just don't get this thing. What advantages does it have over a laptop? Its lighter? But you have to use a touch screen to type, thats completely impractical IMO.

Does it get free internet or something? I think I read you have to pay for 3G? Would someone actually replace their laptop with this thing? No flash capability?

I have an iPod Touch but don't really use it anymore now that I'm out of college. If I need to do something, I'll get a smart phone which is small and I would have it on me all the time, or I'll use my laptop.

That's basically how I feel. I have my iPhone for on the go. I have my laptop for home. And if I'm going on a trip my laptop is more than portable enough to go with me.

Ultimately this thing is just too inbetween. It doesn't do enough to replace my laptop and it's too big and too similar to what I have in my iPhone to replace that.

A few "key players" are trying to move away from flash content. It's buggy, very CPU-intensive and actually wasn't originally created for video. Want YouTube? There's an app specifically for it:



It's pretty funny though... the lack of flash hasn't been an issue for those with an iPhone/iPod touch. But I can see the argument holding more weight with this device.

Yeah...phone browsing is different than normal browsing. Apple wants people to use this to replace a lot of normal web browsing, and sadly for them most sites include flash. When you're on the go you're not expecting full flash (though it'd be nice), but for something they want you to use at home and way more often it's different. Whether Apple likes it or not Flash is a huge part of browsing nowadays.

I dunno, just would be frustrating to be on my couch using the iPad and keep hitting sites with video and other crap that I can't truly view because no flash exists. I deal with it on my phone (though Android is supposedly getting Flash soon) because it's my phone and most flash stuff wouldn't look right on the smaller screen.

That comparison is some BS. One most people arent going to buy the Kindle DX. They will buy the regular Kindle and thats 259. People who buy Kindle's arent looking for multifunction devices...they are looking for ereaders. People looking for Ereaders are going to look at the Kindle, Sony and Nook and then look at the Ipad and see that it costs almost 250 bucks more. Then they will ask why would I pay 250 bucks more when all I want is an ereader.

Of course they use the cheapest ipad vs. the most expensive other devices. Most sites use flash. Only reason Apple doesn't include it is because it will allow people to watch tv shows / movies instead of buying them from iTunes.

Apple is good at brainwashing people by telling them they don't need certain things.

I found out that my library offers quite a few ebooks...now I'm interested in the eBook aspects...

Kindle sucks cause they don't support ePub, so I couldn't check stuff out from the library and use it there...

Neither Sony or the B&N one look that awesome...I'll have to keep the iPad in mind and read some reviews of the eBook aspects...

Until then I'm now gonna try and get my iPod touch up and running with them and see how I like that.
