Honestly, what's so special about an over sized Itouch? In reality, that's' all the Ipad is. In all honestly there really no arguing about what it really is.

@FF I admit I thought this when it was first announced, but as the release loomed closer and more partnerships were announced, you could tell that it was a lot more than an over sized Touch. I will get the second gen.

Yes, I have. My boss bought one, and I was messing with it on Monday.

Like I said IMO it's like an over sized Itouch or Iphone minus the calling features.

It downloads apps, like the Itouch/Ipohne, still doesn't support Flash.

I'm sorry, I just think it's all hype now and apple will steal a lot of people money, when the Hype die's down, you will really see what the Ipad really is. I'm not saying it's a piece of crap, just really not innovative much IMO.

I don't even think you could really label it as Computer.

I played with one for a while.

Was surprised at the size, smaller than I expected, also a little heavier than I expected.

If you have a smartphone, and a laptop, I just dont really get the use for it. Maybe to watch movies on the go because the screen is very nice. Maybe to play app games when you are really bored. The E-Reader is nice.

But I dont see how it could realistically be a substitute for a laptop for anyone. Its too hard to type on and you have to pay for the word apps. I don't see the advantage in hauling this thing around just to surf the web in wifi hot spots or to check email. Your smartphone already does that and you can keep it in your pocket.

If you have money to blow I could see getting one to play around with when you are bored, but I don't see a ton of great use for it.

Basically it is for techies, people who have to have the latest trends ands people who looking for an e-reader with extra features. IMO if you not going to use it as an e-reader, then just stick with the iphone. If you want to watch movies on a big screen, buy a laptop. Seriously for the price of an ipad you could buy a full sized laptop.

Ipad is really a niche market item, it is isn't for your average person.

I have an iPhone and a macbook, so I know I don't need an iPad. However, I still want one and I'm not sure why. Must be that I just want the latest gadgets and it's a new "toy" for me. I'm probably not gonna get one, but I have an urge to buy it when I can logically and rationally say I do not need it, as I have devices that already do what it does.

Or use it if you just want to browse the net and not do a lot of typing. For instance I'd use it to browse OS and if I wanted to occasionally do a short comment i'd do so. If i was wanting to talk a lot on here i'd use my laptop. It's most certainly a niche item but then about 90% of tech products are niche items.

If you really stop and think about all of the tech items you own you could do without the majority of them so I don't know why that argument is being applied so falsely to this particular product. Personally I feel some of it stems from people tired of hearing about how great Apple is but maybe that's just me..

Oh and btw - a lot of the same arguments against owning this were also arguments directed at many other products as well, like I remember when netbooks came out people argued laptops were already available, when GPS' came out people said there was mapquest, there's almost always an argument against a new product that can be made that it's duplicating a function.

To me personally, I don't have a need for it. I don't read books a lot that I need an e-reader for. Everything else that thing can do, my phone also does. But the techie in me screams look it is so shiny and new.

Now if it doubled as a phone then yeah I would be all over it. Far as flash goes........I doubt it will ever get that, Apple suppose to be working on their own in house thing.

Honestly, it's not for techies. It's much better for the average person who will just web surf or e-mail on it and whatnot. A lot of the techies are passing, waiting for the 2nd version.

Most reviews I've read are that techie people probably won't have a need for it, and it's not that awesome enough to be a must buy for everyone.

I do think it's interesting, and really pushes the tablet market. Over time I think they'll get better, I'm interested in the 2nd version myself.
