It depends. If you paid $399, you got the second generation iPad. If you paid $499, you got the third generation (speaking only for the 16 GB version).

I don't really see this as a $500 upgrade over the ipad 2, especially when I only use Wifi, They claim the chip is 4 times stronger than the tegra 3 but their really wasn't a benchmarks or solid #s. I'd like to see some if it is true.

It's not - it's a $100 upgrade. You can still buy the 2 for $400.

I think he meant if you already have a 2.

IMO, we can make the case with every new tablet/phones that come out yearly. Is it worth it? Ehh, maybe not. Some just have to have it, though. (I mean this about every tech)

Right - you don't consider most of these mobile devices that way; They're no different from your laptop/computer at this point.

Do you buy a new laptop every year? Desktop? No.

At least appreciate the fact that you get continued software upgrades free of charge on an annual schedule.

i sold my iPad 1 for 200 a week ago was waiting for this to launch.

i pre ordered black 16gb vzw lte .... when i go to trips or something and the family needs it or the kid does i don't want to be limited.

i am already paying a big investment for it and i could cancel or put on the data plan whenever.

You guys see the differences between the iPad 2 and the new iPad on the apple site using the magnifying glass. Amazing.

I'll be on board for the new iPad 4 gonna skip this one, but it's amazing what they're doing.

What are these differences that you speak of? Other than what was announced.

The retina display is cool and all, but honestly on my iPad 2 I don't really ever find myself going "Man, this text looks like crap"...

Obviously the resolution will make it better, but it's not like the iPad 2 was horrible.
