    The new horrible Hollywood Trend...REBOOTS

    For the love of God.

    ENOUGH.

Now it has been officially confirmed that the "European/Christmas Vacation" series is getting "rebooted".

The Spider Man series...the very same Spider Man series that was critically acclaimed and finished less than 3 years ago....is getting "rebooted".

This is the best you can come up with Hollywood? Seriously?

No more original ideas (which in big budget movie making was already slim to none)..we'll just recycle EVERYTHING...doesn't matter if it's 20 years old or 2 years old....and we won't call it a "remake"...it's now a "reboot".

    Ugh.

I will say this the Star Trek and Batman reboots produced a couple of my all-time favorite movies.

I loved both of them...but...like everything else in Hollywood, everyone and their mother has now jumped on the "reboot" bandwagon.

Just like I loved the original "Scream" movie and then we had to suffer through approximately 285 Scream ripoffs for the next 10 years. Same with "Saw".

I mean seriously...Rebooting the Vacation series? Really?

The audience has the power to change Hollywood.

The audience refuses to change Hollywood.

edit: I should add that my comment is an exaggeration. The audience has actually changed Hollywood. One major thing the audience has helped change over the last couple of years is the impact of a big name celebrity headlining a film.

Studios started noticing around 2008 that giving a big name $20 MM and assuming that big name would help rake in $60 MM is no longer a guarantee. The audience, for the most part, does not care who is on screen; they just want to be blown away.

I agree, I love those two reboots. But they were really necessary for both series, considering where the last ones left off. Batman and Robin seemed more headed towards the tv series than the comic book, and and the next gen Star Trek crew was never really accepted in the way the original was. I thought it was near-genius what JJ Abrams did w/Star Trek, and obviously Batman has done nothing but become colossal. Also think the Terminator series, while not really rebooted is on an interesting track. Superman needed a reboot, but the movie was really disappointing. And the last X-Men movie kinda drove it enough into the ground where it has no choice but to go in a different direction.

The Spiderman reboot I really don't get; they pulled the trigger way too fast on it. The last movie wasn't great, but it wasn't completely putrid either. I thought the current crew deserved another movie to make things right, given that Spiderman 2 was excellent. And I've read Fantastic Four and Daredevil are also getting rebooted

Re: The new horrible Hollywood Trend...REBOOTS

Reboots are nothing new, it's just a recent buzzword. If anything, the time between reboots has just decreased rapidly. Batman didn't get a franchise reboot until the late 80's with Burton's films, then Schumacher ran it into the ground for Nolan to save in 2005. Hulk got remade recently after only 5 years.

It may seem lazy to make reboots, but they're risky gambles. The James Bond franchise was still making 400+ million from the trash Brosnan was in before they decided to pull a reboot. Sony is doing the same with Spiderman, after the last one pulled down nearly $900 million gross.

Star Trek was unfortunately dead as a film and tv franchise prior to the recent film. If it took a "reboot" to get the franchise a big budget movie and interest again, great.

Yeah...I *gasp* actually kinda liked Vegas Vacation, so I don't mind if they try something new...

I guess I just don't let this stuff get to me that much and try to enjoy the ones that are decent and ignore the crappy ones.

From what you're saying this doesn't sound like a reboot at all. Maybe a relaunching and introducing the next generation of Griswalds is more apt. Anyways reboots seem to be happening with more frequency which I don't like but it's nothing totally new. I think the frequency and short turnaround time of reboots started after the disaster that was Ang Lee's Hulk film. After that it seems everything is being rebooted whether it's genuinely needed (Batman, Star Trek) or frivolous (Spider-Man)

                        Bingo.

I never understood the complaints about remakes, reboots, sequels, etc. You don't want to see them? Don't.

For instance, the Halloween remakes. I had no interest in seeing them, so I didn't. Same with the Friday the 13th remake. The fact that they remade them doesn't take away from the fact that the originals were badass.

No one is that naive, but the sudden skyrocket in recycling everything that's been released in the last 20 years is getting annoying.

I'd like to see more "Sixth Sense" and "Matrix" films in line with the 800 other reboots being made. Films that have some shred of originality and can still please the masses.

I mean, when you have movies like the Hulk and Spiderman getting "rebooted" literally right after the previous films, whether they are good or bad, is a bit ridiculous.

Fantastic 4 rebooted? That last movie came out about 2 years ago.
