It makes sense to them - they want these characters being long-lasting series ala James Bond. A new director, new actors, and a different storyline is a way to shake things up before it gets too redundant.

Re: The new horrible Hollywood Trend...REBOOTS
Bingo.
I never understood the complaints about remakes, reboots, sequels, etc. You don't want to see them? Don't.
For instance, the Halloween remakes. I had no interest in seeing them, so I didn't. Same with the Friday the 13th remake. The fact that they remade them doesn't take away from the fact that the originals were badass.
A Spiderman reboot needed to happen since the last one sucked so much and there was a lot more that they could've done with it.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: The new horrible Hollywood Trend...REBOOTS
It's the same as it ever was except more movies are coming out.
I mean, when you have movies like the Hulk and Spiderman getting "rebooted" literally right after the previous films, whether they are good or bad, is a bit ridiculous.
Fantastic 4 rebooted? That last movie came out about 2 years ago.
The Hulk, Spiderman 3, and Fantastic Four all sucked.
As others have said, if you don't want to watch remakes/sequels, don't.
Sure all of them won't turn out like Scarface or Batman Begins, but as long as a few do I'm fine.
Same with people complaining about sequels. Sure you can get rid of Fantastic Four 2, Spiderman 3, Episode 1, and numerous DTV movies, but you also lose Dark Knight, Godfather 2, and Empire Strikes Back.Comment

It's not like there aren't original movies being made.

So?
The Hulk, Spiderman 3, and Fantastic Four all sucked.

My only problem with remakes is when the original movie isn't that old and was top quality as is.Oklahoma State Cowboys 2011 Big XII Champions, 2012 Fiesta Bowl Champions

Re: The new horrible Hollywood Trend...REBOOTS
The first 3 original Batman movies were good, with the first 2 being great, but the bastardization by Shumacher was horrendous.
I'm a huge Chris Nolan fan so the Batman reboot was more than welcomed. But the original 2 by Tim Burton are top notch as well.AUBURN TIGERS

Case in point: Spiderman and Spiderman 2. Hell...Spiderman 3 was far from terrible.

Re: The new horrible Hollywood Trend...REBOOTS
Everybody and their mother seems to love the De Palma version but the Paul Muni version done with Howard Hughes' backing is a MILLION times better. In fact I have the DVD
The De Palma version is a long drawn out overblown piece of crap that's saved by Al Pacino IMO.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: The new horrible Hollywood Trend...REBOOTS
Eh. Not that big a deal...one day its called a remake, the next day it's called a reboot.
As has been mentioned, when done successfully that right past wrongs or breathe new life into a dying franchise...Batman and Star Trek.
And just for the record, I wouldn't mind a Spidey reboot. The 2 main characters (Spiderman and Mary Jane) got tiring and Spidey 3 was terrible. I'd welcome a darker Spidey.
Some movie franchises they should just let ride off into the sunset.Comment
