At least there won't be any "down" time. Anyway, A Clash of Kings is going by like crazy. It feels like I'm reading at twice the speed I read A Game of Thrones.

I'm surprised I've managed to go this long without reading A Clash of Kings. The good part is, I'll be completely surprised with whatever happens in season 2. I'll read the book once the season is nearly done just like I did with Game of Thrones.

Yeah, I thought about waiting for maybe two seconds, haha.

Yeah, I like knowing what should happen then see how its done within the constraints of 10 hours of TV.

I like reading and imagining things in my head and seeing how they create it for TV. Once I see a character on screen they replace what I imagine. I really wish I could not imagine the TV Catelyn when I read the book, haha.

And you'll probably read A Storm of Swords at twice the pace you are reading ACOK at.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)

So I FINALLY finished A Dance With Dragons. Ferrying the offspring hither and thither dragged things down, but I was able to knuckle down and finish the last half over the last few days.

                  WOW!

That being said, I came late to the books, only reading the first one in the months leading up the series, and then the four following after the season finished. If I ever met George R.R. Martin, I would shake his hand, maybe even hug him, and say "amazing works, great job, congratulations". I would then punch his fat face in, drag him back to my home, and go all Misery on his *** until he finished the series. I don't know how you guys who read it early managed that long gap between four and five, but if we are in for a similar deal, I'll go mad!

                  Finish the books, George! Finish...the...books...

EDIT: I have to admit, telling my son the perils of cliffhangers and fears of an author dying was a great discussion point while we sat on the couch reading various books together. I mean, we had experienced them before as we talked about, but there's been nothing on the level of GRRM.

Is there suppose to be a set number books before George wants to end it? Someone told me 7 books but wasn't sure. I know its selfish of me but with his age and him being overweight, I hope he'll have the health and energy to finish two more books.

Seven books is what the plan is now...though if I'm not mistaken the original plan was for three.

EDIT: The titles are currently The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring, for what it's worth.

One thing I've found is Epic fantasy books always go longer than what the author intends. its happened with the Wheel of time and Sword of Truth series and it wouldn't surprise me to have it happen here. Its expected though, especially when an author tangles and juggles so many diverging plot threads.

I could see GRRM pull it off at 7...if he ever stops eating and watching the Jets.

See, Wheel of Time is one I've grappled on starting. I know the original author died, and dragged things out RIDICULOUSLY long in the middle books, and yet apparently the guy in charge is finishing things A-OK. So it's not a waste.

Gah, I'm reading some atheist tract and then Douglas Adams next. The authors are both dead, so things are great, LOL.

I read all the books after watching the first season, and I actually loved watching that first season not knowing what was going to happen. It was intense, and I loved every minute of it. (I did rage pretty hard at "Baelor" of course.)

The primary reason I decided to read all the books though was that I know that one way or another I would be things spoiled over the years, and I certainly didn't want to experience the twists and turns that way, so I read all the books.

Without going into specific plot points, let's just say I'll be very surprised if GRRM can wrap this up in 2 books. There are a whole lotta plates a-spinning.
