Is part of the reason the Baelish betrayed Ned, because of all he would've lost with Stannis on the throne. I remember reading at times about how Stannis was aginst the whorehouses, and in their last exchange, Baelish mentioned Stannis selecting his own counsel. I mean, I'm sure there are other reasons as well, but I am reading the books and I found their last little exchange interesting knowing what is about to happen.

Baelish is a man a of deceit and action when the time is needed. Ned was just too damn stubborn about doing the right thing no matter what. Baelish isn't necessarily a "Stannis" guy. He definitely is the smartest/craftiest guy in the whole universe though.

I think his point was that because Littlefinger isn't really a Stannis guy, he risked losing his council seat if he allowed Ned to continue his quest to oust the Lannisters from the throne. Self interest and self preservation made him turn on Ned or else allow Stannis to take the throne and Littlefinger is no longer in the position of power he is in now.

So I finally finished A Feast for Crows. It took longer than I would have liked due to my son's hockey season ramping up, but it's finished. While it's the weakest of the first four, I didn't hate it like so many others. I'm curious as to:

What Brienne said, if it gets answered. I'm really liking Jamie now, and it's good to see Cersei humbled and jailed. I also liked the entire Dorne story, however brief it was. That should be interesting going forward.

The reason I think I'm OK with it is that I can move right in to "Dance", and not have to bristle and be pissed at the "coming next year" teaser at the end of the novel...and then having to wait six. I definitely agree that he's setting up a ton of action for The Winds of Winter. That one should be phenomenal!

Took me a while to get through Book 1, because I was watching the show on HBO Go as I went. But I am flying through A Clash of Kings, and could easily be through another two books by the time the second season starts. This isn't even a genre of books I read, but I am loving the series so far.

I also think that ACoK moves faster. I started the other day and am nearly 400 pages in already. Not that I also have a break in school, I can really do some damage. I'm glad I came back around to this.
