Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
I'm in the middle of book 4 now. But regarding what you mention...
SpoilerThe Red Wedding might be the worst thing I've come across so far in these books. That tore me up. Although, that wouldn't have been as bad if Theon actually killed Bran and Rickon near the end of book 2. That would have taken the #1 spot.SpoilerIt was just awful. Especially considering I watched the first season of the show before I started reading the books, and that character really became my favorite towards the end of the season, it made it that much worse. I really don't have much interest in the series after that moment. I finished that book (incredible book despite all the horrible things that happen), and now I'm trying to read AFFC, but I'm just not interested in it.
They are apparently expanding his character even more in Season 2, and showing all the stuff that is just heard about from third parties in the book, which is going to make the red wedding even worse in the show.Comment

Have found myself not tearing through AFFC like I did the first three books for pretty much the same reasons. I also feel kind of worn down. Lots of pages in those first three books. If they really are going to do that though with his character in season 2, then, yeah, that event will be much worse on the show. For those folks who are holding off on reading the books, people will likely be more ticked off about the Red Wedding than Lord Stark's execution. Someone mentioned earlier in the thread how if people were getting bent out of shape about the latter, he couldn't imagine how they'd be with some of the things that happen later. Now I know what he meant.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
SpoilerIf it's true that they plan on expanding his character..then wow. Can't wait to see the reactions. GRRM is gonna have dudes lined up at his door demanding him to rewrite the series.
As far as interest in the series after the RW, I'm still totally into it. I blame it on Bran, all the peeps from Dorne, Sam, Arya and Tyrion. Their story lines and what will eventually happen to them or because of them still intrigues me to no end. Everytime I see their names at the start of a chapter my eyes light up.
I just hope Cersei dies sooner or later. Idk how far you guys are AFFC but I have a feeling you will share my sentiments for Ms. Lannister by the time you're done w/ it.Last edited by eDotd; 09-20-2011, 11:40 PM.

That's not even really taking AFFC into account much. GRRM did a great job of evolving Jamie over the course of ASOS, making him likable and quite polar to Cersei by the end of that book.
At Comic-Con, one of the showrunners said his goal with the show was just to get to the RW, because he thinks that it may be the last straw with some viewers and could literally make a significant number of viewers stop watching the show. With an expanded character from the books, that moment is going to be nothing short of horrific for viewers. People that haven't read the book might loss it, and I wouldn't blame them at all.

Spoilerand ugh, I just dont want to waste the time getting to care about characters only to know how their story will end. The Starks just pretty much get the shaft for the entire series. That said, it is a great show, fantastic story.Moderator

I could easily see that happening. I mean I pretty much lost interest after the death of Eddard Stark, because I couldn't wait so I went to the net to find out what happens in the coming books seasons,Spoilerand ugh, I just dont want to waste the time getting to care about characters only to know how their story will end. Spoilerthe Red Wedding.
I also predict that the very last scene of Season 2 isSpoilerNOT the destruction of Winterfell, but the prologue of Storm of Swords: "Three blasts means... white walkers."Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
So I just finished A Clash of Kings, absolutely sucked into the series, thought Id share hilarious moment. Im telling my wife how great the series is, I read Game of thrones basically throughout the summer sparingly, and about halfway through August started Clash of Kings.
I didn't intend on it coming out like this but I'm like "Man, it took me 3-4 months to read the first 2 books....but you know.....winter is coming" Nergasm ensues. lol. Now every freaking day my wife is like "Is winter coming?"Comment

Spoiler
So I guess you're excluding Catelyn from the Starks? Because I don't see how she deserved anything that's happened to her.
The only thing she did wrong was free Jaime. I don't think it's very fair that the Starks have to play by all the rules when no one else does.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO Sunday nights @ 9PM EST)
Assuming HBO sticks to 10 episodes per season, episode 9 of Season 3 will almost certainly end withSpoilerthe Red Wedding.
I also predict that the very last scene of Season 2 isSpoilerNOT the destruction of Winterfell, but the prologue of Storm of Swords: "Three blasts means... white walkers."SpoilerThat's probably the most likely scenario to happen for seasons 3 and 4, but not necessarily what I want to see happen. I see the Red Wedding and everything that happens after that for the rest of that book to basically be a climax and conclusion to almost everything from the first three books. I feel it would be a shame to split those up, but it's probably going to happen. Also, what happens when the ASOS stuff ends in the middle of season 4, and then it jumps to the ultra boring beginning of AFFC. Quite the change of pace.
I'm sure they'll figure out a way to do it well, they did a great job with season 1.
I hope the last scene in season 2 stays the same as in the book. Great, surreal scene.Comment

I also have 100 pages left in CoK but I haven't read any of it in about a month. I think I'm going to try to get back into it tonight and finish the book. Such a good series so far and I can't wait until the show comes back, they did such a great job in Season 1.Patriots
