    Independence Day Sequels

Back in October it was reported that a script for the sequel to Independence Day had been completed. Still nothing had been set in stone as star Will Smith had not signed on and talks were taking place about the future. Director Roland Emmerich was insisting that Smith be involved if a sequel were to

I'd see these, but I wonder how bankable he is in these summer blockbusters now. He can't play the cliched lead role anymore since he's older. Be interesting to see if he still has the box office draw of a comedy type blockbuster.

7 pounds had a small budget and made over $150 million and Hancock made over $600 million. Will Smith draws money no matter what he does.

Was just about to say, how bankable is Will Smith? Really?

I'm not saying he can't bring in the dough, but in terms of this type of role 15 years later or however long its been. If they are just recycling cliched roles and lines for him to spit out, people will stop going. I liked ID4 and would go see the sequel, the third would depend on how good the 2nd was/is.

Will Smith could end up in an Eddie Murphy or Sly Stallone type situation where he's going back to what made him a huge star in the first place. That's a dangerous strategy IMO. We've seen some other action stars like those two who have seen their careers go on a downward swing because of that like Bruce Willis.

Cameron Crowe is hard at work trying to get a Marvin Gaye biopic to the big screen and wanted Will Smith but he turned the role down for mysterious reasons. (IMO at least)

if I had to guess, it would be because Will doesn't fit that role in any other way besides the obvious. I'd look for someone who could at least hold some kind of note.

On another note, Will has been only signing onto movies that are bankable. Look at the record.......

Hated ID. Too many goofy moments for it to be a legitimate sci-fi flick. Judd Hirsch's Jewish accent was brutal. Jeff "The Fly" Goldblum is always forgettable. Randy Quaid's "up yourrrrrrs" cheapened the movie. No thanks.

Good point though I didn't think Seven Pounds was exactly a bankable film. I was hoping he'd go for more risky roles like that or Pursuit of Happyness.

I really repect his riles he has been playing lately. I honestly think he is in the top ten with his roles during the last decade. He has played just about everything and has done well. One thing that I have to point out Isherwood fact that money isn't the determining factor of great acting. I was moved by Pursuit, engulfed by 7 Pounds, excited by I Am Legend, floored by Ali......

The man is good. He really made a mark in "Hollywood" with his flexibility. He's not the greatest, but he commands a variety of emotions. Heck, I'm still touched by the dog situation in Legend. Tears on command get my vote.

Cool. I'm a big Roland E. fan. I even loved 2012. It'd be nice to see things get blown up again! His scripts aren't the best, but he's really good at blowing stuff up. And I don't think Will will have a problem being believeable. He's always gonna be a natural goof, which is perfect for camp like ID4.
