There is no way to make a great story from Transformers. I loved Transformers as a kid, but not for its depth.

The designs are horrendous for the most part with only Prime and Bumblebee looking decent. You'd think they'd try to at least mimic the G1 look instead it's a freak show.
The designs aren't great (I hated them at first), but the G1 characters in live action would look awful.

As hard as it is to take a movie about transforming robots seriously, the G1 designs would be embarrassingly bad.

Oh I didn't say to copy them outright but at least look more like the G1 designs. I'm sure you've seen the famous fan made mockup of Devastator and that was just pure genius! It brought the G1 look to mind but it was also different. That's what i'm talking about.

The problem with the G1 would be the motion. They don't have anywhere near enough moving parts.

I feel that a great story can come from, giant robots, anime mice, claymation spiders, or any anthropomorphic character representations. If the script i.e., plot and dialog, is top shelf then it can be something special.

I think of District 9 as a great story, and in my opinion, its premise isn't too far off from what we see in Transformers.

You may feel that certain themes preclude the possibility of greatness, but I definitely don't agree.

District 9 isn't based off a toy series and doesn't have to sell merchandise.

Transformers was a kids television show. The new Transformers is still trying to attract young'uns. Yes, most of us remember the show from decades ago, but we aren't the only people they're appealing to and they're going to continue to pander to that demographic.

The fact that both movies made banks prove that most people are looking for robots fighting and not great story development.

Would I like better acting, no Shia, and much better story? Absolutely.

Is that realistic? Not at all.

there's also the fact that most of this movie's target audience doesn't give a damn about G1 source material.

Maybe I just caught the absolute worse 20 minutes of the movie and the rest was awesome, but from what I saw I can't see anyone justifying a third installment.
You probably caught the best 20 minutes.

Congrats, you found a girl without makeup, who just woke up in the morning.

According to your calculations, 99.9% of girls are ugly. Have you ever seen MOST girls before they put on makeup in the morning?

....and I don't really see what's "wrong" with her in that picture.

For a girl who doesn't have make-up and isn't dressed up, she looks pretty damn bangable in that picture.

Damn some guys are picky as hell.

It's like I tell my friends, "I only bang twins who are both 10s. The only thing is that it only happens when you guys aren't here."

                          Meh.

On a scale of 1-10 she is an 8 anyways. Ya she is hot, but it's not like she is some out of this world beautiful perfect woman. Get someone who can act and try to save the story aspect of the movie.

This is a Michael Bay flick, my man. That aspect of the movie doesn't exist.

And Megan Fox is fine as hell, IMO.

I will say "au contraire" to that as I thought the first Transformers was actually pretty fleshed out. It had some pretty rotten moments where I was scratching my head (the scene with the Transformers on the front lawn, for instance), but it is a pretty good movie both in terms of story and action. No Oscar-winner here, but story does matter even in a movie like this.

If not, coherence is the least we could ask for. There were so many incoherent moments in TF2 that I didn't know whether I wanted to keep watching after some time. Megan Fox's character disappearing will be one of those notable gaps that will matter to me, not because of her looks but because she is well integrated in Bay's Transformers universe as Sam's love interest.

Precisely. I am with you completely.

Going further, the importance of Megan Fox isn't her acting or her looks. The only reason she is important is because she is relevant. If she was irrelevant, and they decided to take her out, it wouldn't be a big deal. For instance, if they decided to take Tyrese Gibons or Josh Duhamel out of the film, it wouldn't be a big deal; they aren't relevant to the overarching story. In the grand scheme of the story (regardless of how bad you think the story is), they are a very minor part.

The story is about Sam; Sam and the Transformers. Mikaela is relevant and important to Sam. To take her out of the story is to destroy the overarching story of the movie. If not done properly (a good death scene, followed by a good emotional reponse could be a GOOD thing for the film), the film will suffer.
