I hate pretty much anything to do with vampires/werewolves, but I've always been interested in this show because I've heard its "different" - and not in the stupid Twilight way.

Other than the amount of tits/sex that are apparently shown, is there any reason someone that doesn't like anything to do with vampires should start watching this show?

If this wasn't on HBO, I wouldn't be interested at all, but I've liked every HBO show I've ever watched, so I'm already factoring in the "HBO factor" to the argument.

It is a bit corny, but the show delves into a lot of political type stuff that keeps the show fresh and gives you a bit to "think" about.

I'm with you LH, I hate vamps but one day I stumbled upon it and I haven't stopped watching since. It's sort of odd.

My wife loves anything Vampire related and this is one i can actually stand so i have watched both series so far and am looking forward to the 3rd. Yes it has heaps of tits/sex which is cool but they really have the whole "finish the episode on a cliff hanger moment so you have to watch the next one" thing down pat. I must have watched right through series one in a week when it came out on dvd and never do that with tv shows.

My wife has read all the books so i have to keep telling her to watch the spoilers. I think there will be heaps of the next series focused more on Eric than Bill which is cool. I don't particularly like Bill's character or that guys acting so i'm happy about that. That red head in the OP is straight fire! For some reason i never really found Anna Paquin all that attractive with that gap tooth you could kick a field goal through but she is sexy as hell in this show.

My girlfriend is a HUGE fan of this show and she's having a viewing party at my house for it. I just got Season 2 on Blu-ray and we're going to finish watching the last episodes this weekend to get ready for Season 3.

As for Bill, I've never heard of anyone who likes him. My girlfriend likes Eric and I do see why, he's much more interesting (and for the ladies much better looking) than Bill. I believe this season Eric will go about stealing Sookie away.

I really like Sam and hope the show focuses more on him this season. The whole shapeshifting thing is more interesting to me than the vampires/werewolves thing as it's got more possibilities.

Ah, I can't wait. Such a good show. Alan Ball knows how to captivate an audience.

But what I'm most interested in is finally finding out... (spoiler for those who haven't seen season two yet)

I'm like you but not as extreme.

A friend got me into this because he told me the back-story which is spoiler-free.

In this show, Vampires and humans co-exist, but many if not most humans don't like them and are prejudice against them. There are also factions of vamps the feel the opposite way.

So it's an alternate reality completely, other than people not believing in them and getting killed all the time.

To me this made it more interesting and it's done in a more intelligent way (HBO factor) so as not to be bubblegum crap for 13 year old girls.

It's shot very well and has cool and interesting things going on and enough thing happen to important characters that you feel as if the show is going places.

The setting also helps, that southern small-town feel (lots of gravel roads and old-style big southern houses).

It's cool, it's sexy and it's well-made and cast imo. Give it a shot.
