Much like 24 and season 5 of The Wire, there's a great season somewhere in the show, but it involves ignoring 30-40% of the show.
I thought this last season was very good until the weak finale. Revealing that Bill had been summoned by the queen to seek out Sookie and then he let her get a beatdown so he could save the day was pretty good writing.

But now that we have identified that Bill is evil no matter howmuch his conscience interferes they can stop with the on again off again rinse and repeat Sookie Shenanigans. She needs to impale him and move on.

Eric is a great character. Infact if they devoted a whole season to his exploits from 1400 to present, I would be just fine with that.

And I also agree that the show is called True Blood. Thats the key to vampires coming out and trying to live amongst humans. They need to get back to the big picture of that dynamic a bit.

Now its just starting to turn into the "Crazy Shenanigans of Bon Temps" like that town is just filled with all types of ridiculous crazy stuff. Bring on the Leprachauns, the gnomes, Chucacabra's , yetis, and aliens.

It was better when there were only a few people with powers, now everyone has some crazy brother or cousin that can do something.

      Seriously.

When Russell tore the spine out of that anchor, you would have thought that would have caused a firestorm/worldwide vamphunt. But nope.

Outside of the "die vamps" graffiti on various houses/buildings, they never focused on the world's reaction to that wild act. A lot of vamps should have gotten the X-men treatment. But nope. All we got was a few seconds of dumb back and forth between the Pastor and the Vampire League spokeswoman... which was completely lacking in substance.

Yeah, I was pretty pumped at the end of the episode, but then nothing happened.

While season 5 of the Wire was the weakest, it was by no means bad. That show is a work of art from 1-5.

I'm with the consensus, though. Way too much time devoted to boring stuff from characters that are getting more screen time than they should. Arlene and Terry are fine in really small doses. Neither needs to be regularly involved in every episode. Like, look at Pam for instance. She kills it every time she's on screen, but if you put her on screen a lot, every episode, it would make her character less effective.

I don't really understand where Sam is going from here. He went from being a main character in the Bill/Sookie/Eric thing, to being completely taken out of it. Did he have one scene with any of those three this season, aside from his gay Bill dream? I think he had a small throwaway scene with Sookie at the start, and that was it. I'd rather see him getting more screen time than some of these other secondary characters.

Does Sookie even work at Merlot's anymore?

I thought Sam's brother was going to wreak more havoc with Hoyt and Jessica.

Sam's family was a pretty decent storyline too. Actually there is alot of trhe season that I liked.

I think I am just getting tired of the Sookie/Bill rinse and repeat storyline. Actually Bill in general is getting annoying.

So basically, characters I still like:
            Eric
            Sam
Jason(although they have to not turn him into Stifler)
Lafayette(although that could turn real quick next season)
            Russell
            Alcide

            Characters that gotta go:
            Crystal "Meth" Norris
            Tara

I hope they deviate away from Sookie for a while. I think she needs a rest too.

Season 5 was good, but my point was that in the last 10 episodes everyone wanted to see the 4 seasons of story resolved and they kept pumping in the relatively pointless newspaper story.

Totally disagree. There were few storylines left unresolved by the end of season 5. Omar, Marlo, McNulty....every single storyline was wrapped up.

Totally agree with all the impression of the finale being a huge let down. The little to no outcry over the whole Russell pulling the Mortal Kombat finishing move on that news anchor is a real let down. That story arc could have pushed it into **** territory if they used it right but all there was was one lame tv interview with the head of the vampire league and that church of the sun pastor..... Lame lame lame.

Also when Sam found out that Tommy had stole his money how did he (Sam) just magically find him almost instantly? I guess it's because of his scent but it was really poorly done. Agree that Lafayette just accepting Jesus was a witch was really weird as well. He was just like "ok cool".

                  Tara better keep on driving.

This show has so much potential but they are really just wasting it......

Everything "wrapped up", but 99% of that was done in episodes 4 and 9.

All of the storylines were "wrapped up" when you write out 5 years of character in one scene.

I think he's just trying to say that the newspaper storyline took away from the more central storylines, and that made them seem rushed, which I agree to an extent, but they made it work. You're building to something for 4 seasons and then just throw in a whole new cast of characters in your final 10 episodes, that's ballsy. But then again season 4 was ballsy too, and it become one of the single greatest achievements in television history. Simon is an ex-paper guy. You knew the newspaper angle was coming at some point in this series, if not for anything, for a commentary on the dying industry of newspaper. It was unneeded, but it tied into the plot surrounding the cops, and had those little subtext nods like Omar's death being ignored by the paper. Also another old school hard work, do it the right way vs. lazy new age, cutting corners storyline with Gus and Templeton. That was an ongoing theme from day one in the series. Gus was a good character, I wish he was introduced sooner in the series. That would have made the paper angle a lot easier to take in. That one shot of Gus with "..the life of kings" background was ****, btw.

Also when Sam found out that Tommy had stole his money how did he (Sam) just magically find him almost instantly? I guess it's because of his scent but it was really poorly done.
I was wondering that too. Did they expect the audience to just assume he tracked him through scent? It could have been solved with one line of dialog "I caught your scent a mile away." and bam, it makes sense then.

And that problem with that is -- I don't care about that "cliffhanger" in a good way. I didn't gasp when he the gun was fired because I don't care about Tommy. If Tommy is alive I will be sad. Really should have been the other way around. Make me wonder if Sam got shot. Not if Tommy got shot.

Yeah. who cares about Tommy, he's just another dog that can't read. Stackhouse should start up a Reading is Fundamental program at his hillbilly orphanage for Wigers or Wanthers(or whatever you call those things people that turn into tigers and panthers) and send Tommy over there.
