I've never had Showtime before. Direct TV just offered me a free 6 months because I give them so much of my money. I'd never seen Dexter. I watched the entire 5th season on demand and was blown away. Best show I've seen in years. I've now ordered seasons 1 through 4 on DVD, I've got to see how it all began. Excellent show.

JMD if you thought Season 5 was good, Season 4 will blow your mind!!! Enjoy!

I concur. The writers obviously thought they would tone down the WOW factor. It was a bit of a let down, but not a bad episode.

I think it's more of a personal disappointment than anything. I don't think the writers "failed" outside of the plot holes I mentioned.

We're just spoiled.

Exactly-there are so many bloody bath scenes in a series' run. I expect something exceptional next year though.

But I didn't want a blood bath either.

I just don't agree with another finale of Dexter getting away through the skin of his teeth especially considering all that happened with Debra being a step behind every time.

That's not to mention the rushed ending that just closed several plots in a single bound or picnic.

That is the problem when you have a season finale in less than a hour, everything seems rushed.

I agree. It had nothing to do with that (although like I posted earlier, I feel Lumen turning on Dexter would have been a great twist), but things just wrapped up too neatly.

The whole season they kept throwing new things at us that, for the most part, were unexpected. And then they built everything up so much leading into the finale, even going as far as calling it "The Big One" and nothing really big happens.

Very inconsistent season, started poorly, gathered steam midway thru and then totally dropped the ball in the finale. Just before my wife and I started watching the last show she was nervous based on what happened last season and I told her that would be hard to top and Dexter will probably find and kill Chase and Lumen will survive because Dex has already mentioned too many times during the season that he was destined to lose anyone that cares about him so you kinda knew they wouldn't kill her off.

So when Deb drew the gun and looked like she was about to find out my wife was freaking out and I said I betcha she just lets them go without seeing them (I was half joking because I didn;t think they would be that lame for the finale) and when she did we just looked at each other saying WTF.

They really need to have one of the characters on the show find out because the show is becoming a caricature of itself with all these close calls. No one has that many horseshoes up thier *** but Dexter seems to have it in spades. It's like the old Batman and Robin TV series in the 1960's where the show would end with Batman and Robin stuck in some trap that looks impossible to get out of and then the next show they would escape because Batman forgot he had a boxcutter in his utility belt. That show was meant to be a parody, this show isn't.

And why the hell did they clean up the Quinn storyline so quickly. It would have been a perfect cliffhanger for next year where he's awaiting trial and mulling over about whether he should say what he knows about Dex (and the pictures) and whether to fess up to save his own skin and having Deb stuck in the middle. Cliffhangers like that aren't gimmicky because it will take a few shows to resolve it. They're only gimmicky when you know it will be answered in the very next show and you have to wait a year for just one episode.

This ending was way too clean and it would have been OK if this was the show's 1st season but after 5 seasons you need to have meatier finales and mature as a show, not wrap things up in a pretty little bow.

And is Deb like the Lone Ranger of cops. You suspect Chase is at this cabin and you don't call for backup when half of Miami is looking for him. She had no clue that the vigilantes would be there so why the hell would you go in blind and by yourself. Huge absence of reality there. Almost as bad as the cops not finding any of dexter's fingerprints or DNA or hair fibres in the van where Liddy died. If you work for the police it's required for you to provide DNA and fingerprints so Dexter would of popped up as a match immediately.

well Dexter was wearing gloves when he was taken by robocop. So at least their wouldn't have been finger prints

Is there going to be a 6th season? I thought I heard before season 4 that the show was only signed for 60 episodes (5 seasons). I really hope I'm wrong.

Yeah there is. They announced it the week before the finale.

I was fully expecting it to happen.

Odd thing is, had it did, I will still have been surprised. Dexter would've had to kill the same individual he became so attached to in such a short amount of time, the one person who "saw him for what he was."

But nah, her demon is gone. Yaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!
