Man, the movie Sphere, with Dustin Hoffman/Samuel L Jackson/Sharon Stone, used to scare me when I was a kid to the point I never finished it.

I just watched the final 3/4ths of the movie. Damn that was...not scary, or good, at all.

My favorites would have to be:

      Blair Witch Project
      The Ring
      Quarantine
      Fourth Kind

I seriously had trouble sleeping months after Blair Witch. I was scared of my own shadow at times. I'd flip out if I walked into a room and my brother would be facing the corner like in the movie. If I watched it again it wouldn't be anything, but the way BWP succeeded in horror that no other movie could for me was simply creating the atmosphere and allowing my own imagination scare itself. They never showed the witch or showed anything on camera, just signs of what happened, and that's when my screwed up imagination took over and filled in the blanks.

I've seen Ringu and REC but I still prefer the Hollywood remakes.

Fourth Kind became a lot less scary when it was revealed to be fake, but at the time I did find it genuinely scary. It wasn't really the aliens that were scary, but the scenes of possession were truly effed up... oh and the girl that played the "real" doctor is creepy as hell.

My favorite horror movie (and its such an easy choice) is The Shining. Such a truly creepy movie.

Easily one of the most disappointing movies I've ever seen. It was like a homeless man's version of Leviathan without the monster.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

Yes. I love space/sci-fi movies and just couldn't get into this movie at all.
Good call on the Leviathan reference Taur3asi3.
Never saw the Strangers....looks creepy. I'll have to check that out!

Strangers gave my wife nightmares for about 3 weeks. She would look over at me at random times after that movie and say, "Are there really people who do that? Just come to your house and kill you because you are there?"

I always said, "Probably". In hind sight I should have tried to calm her down.

When a stranger calls(the original) was pretty creepy too. That was very well done for a movie that old.

the truth is there are, and they get away with it as there's not motive to attach them to it.

The Fourth Kind: I thought this was actually pretty good. The thing is, it really depends on how you go into it. I saw it late at night, with no prior knowledge of it at all. I took the "based on true events" as real, which was key. Thinking that this really happened makes the movie..otherwise it just doesn't work.

The Exorcist: I remember this as a kid...my parents wouldn't even let me watch the trailer when it came on TV. Years later, my aunt in D.C. lives 2 blocks from that scary, outdoor stairway. She took me there at night and it was every bit as spooky.

I'll have to look for REC. I don't normally have a problem with sub titles, but for a horror film, it really distracts me from the mood of the film.

Also, no one has mentioned Rosemary's Baby? I know it's kind of old, but that film really creeps me out still. Don't show it to a pregnant women, either.

A movie that I think was called "The Fall of the House of Usher" was an old time horror movie that freaked me out as a kid. It had Vincent Price in it. I saw it again a few years ago and realized that Vincent Price wasn't really scary, he's just gay.

I think you have The Descent mixed up with The Cave which is very understandable.

And I say it all the time....scariest film ever to me was Jaws. I don't swim at the beach or even lakes...I sometimes hear that damn music in a dark pool.
