These reviews are so mixed. You have some people saying it's not good and others who say it lived up to the hype and all that. Its strange. If anything, it's made me look forward to seeing it even more.

Re: Superman Man Of Steel
I've come to the conclusion that most people just know of Superman in the Donner films and not the ones in the comic books. That and they can't accept a reboot of a movie from 1978.Comment

I thought it was just ok. 6.5/10.
SpoilerMaybe it was because I was getting tired, but it felt like the last hour or so of battle scenes were being played on a loop. Just rinse and repeat the same confrontation.NFL - Vikings

Re: Superman Man Of Steel
I can give my reasons why I felt it was so bad.
Spoiler
First off, the editing was terrible. Just spliced here and there with all it's jumps and skips all over the past, present and god knows what with that Zod/Superman talk in Kansas near the end.
Then Lois Lane? I mean, she was written as just an odd character. Her knowing Clark is Superman is annoying to begin with but am I really supposed to believe the military would include her on all these missions?
The end fight scenes, or any fight scene felt too jumpy, like Michael Bay's Transformers films. Long and drawn out with lots of things being destroyed.
No freeze breath and no kryptonite. But we did see Wayne Enterprises, LexCorp and Utopia Casino. Those were all pretty cool. Loved the opening on Krypton, really well done.
The end felt like they wanted to copy the end of Avengers. For me, had a been there done that feel to it. Can only watch New York (Metropolis) be destroyed by aliens to have the super hero save the day. Wish that was more fleshed out to just not be so generic.
Cavill was good as Supeman, much better than that stiff from Returns.
Glad I'm in the minority and people are enjoying it, I just expected more. Just feel Hollywood cannot figure out how to make a good Superman movie and its disappointing.

We're basically getting glimpses of Clark's life growing up while also keeping up with his current journey - finding out who he is. I thought it was effective and used at the right times but perhaps it's not for everyone.
Zod and Kal-El in that Kansas sequence was Zod prodding into his mind.
Then Lois Lane? I mean, she was written as just an odd character. Her knowing Clark is Superman is annoying to begin with but am I really supposed to believe the military would include her on all these missions?
She was written as being a very effective journalist. It totally makes sense for her to be able to track this guy down using sources and leads. For once, she's not merely a damsel in distress but a proactive reporter.
She was involved in bringing Kal-El in because she knows who he is. She's involved in bringing the kryptonians back to the Phantom Zone because Jor-El told her how to stop them and she had possession of the Kryptonian key belonging to Clark.
As for her knowing about Clark before he even becomes Superman, I thought it was a nice and effective change. Are we really supposed to believe this awesome reporter will be oblivious the whole time? I think she'll play a big part in helping Clark keep his cover in any sequel and their characters will be richer for it.
The end fight scenes, or any fight scene felt too jumpy, like Michael Bay's Transformers films. Long and drawn out with lots of things being destroyed.
No freeze breath and no kryptonite.
Hey, more powers to discover in the future. As for kryptonite, they specifically said that wouldn't make an appearance in this movie. Not only is it a tired device from all the past Superman films, the villain doesn't need it to match up with Kal-El.
But we did see Wayne Enterprises, LexCorp and Utopia Casino. Those were all pretty cool. Loved the opening on Krypton, really well done.

Re: Superman Man Of Steel
Here's why I thought it was too over the top:
SpoilerI did enjoy the storytelling aspect and the flashbacks, it set things up very nicely. However, I just got a "can we get this over with" feeling once the fight scenes began and the CGI took over. Hey, it's an alien spacecraft hovering over a city again that the army is sending A-Team style helicopters after!! I guess I wasn't a big fan of the whole alien spacecraft/invasion aspect because that's not how I have ever viewed Superman.
And then another aspect my friend and I were discussing afterwards: Why did Zod need Lois on the spacecraft?!? What was his goal in that?? In the end, that seemingly pointless decision spelled his doom. Just seemed like an excuse to move the plot forward with no real reasoning or connection to it.
After seeing this, I think I'm done with movie blockbusters for a while. I need to get back to movies that are about the storytelling and not the over-ridiculous CGI special effects. After seeing this and seeing the previews of the upcoming movies (Pacific Rim, Elysium, World War Z), and seeing some of the movies in the hopper for 2013 (Robocop, Godzilla, Spiderman 2), it's looking that CGI and ridiculous action sequences are overtaking original content and storytelling.

/rantSpoilerYeah, the thing with Lois on the ship made no sense whatsoever and was just extremely lazy writing to get her involved. As far as CGI, my problem with the CGI in this movie is that it was way too obvious when the actor stopped being real and the green screen was extremely noticeable. It was like the Raimi Spider-Man movies where you lost all sense of weight with the actors once they started the CGI fight scenes. I don't know how they got such bad special effects in a movie with such a huge budget.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Superman Man Of Steel
SpoilerI thought it was pretty darn good. Nothing mindblowing or anything but the dark edge really helped. I feel though that it's not very "Superman" and I guess that's a big complaint from many. I didn't feel like it was as witty as it usually is.
CGI was not terribly great but there were some nice shots, particularly with Zod's chick running in that town street with like, three or four stutter steps. I don't know how to describe it, lol.
The scene where Zod communicates with Earth was ****ing awesome. I got a Bane vibe from it, as well as one point when Zod walks in in his suit. Can't remember exactly when that was though.
We always get into the trap of comparing superhero movies, and I've heard comparisons to Dark Knight and how Man of Steel stacks up. I think that's a very reckless claim to make. Obviously they're different, but Dark Knight was one of the best movies I've seen while Man of Steel was merely one of the best superhero movies I've seen.
Also, Amy Adams. She's ****ing adorable and that's that. She didn't even do an especially great job or anything but I find myself enamored by her.
The theater lobby was PACKED. Couldn't believe how many showings they had at midnight. Unreal.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 06-14-2013, 03:31 PM.Comment

Re: Superman Man Of Steel
Just got in from seeing it in 3D. Really enjoyed it. IMO, better than Iron Man 3. My only gripe is that all the fight scenes felt repetitive. Did a great job of pacing and explaining the backstory.
3D didn't help or hurt it... not worth the extra $3-4.Comment

Re: Superman Man Of Steel
Yeah I wasn't too impressed with the 3D, but it was really only my 2nd 3D movie(the other being Avengers) as I wanted to try it now that I had contacts. It was worth the extra $$ for me though as initially for the midnight showing I went into the 2D theatre by accident and that was packed, the 3D theatre only had like 20 people(which was weird as they had tons of showings and every other one seemed packed)Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Superman Man Of Steel
Saw the movie this morning, and it was enjoyable. I didn't love it, but that was for the action scenes. Anything else was pretty good. It reminded me a lot of Thor (I thought this was the better movie, but the story's pace felt similar).
As people know from my rant in the Avengers thread, my problem is the fighting. I begin asking: "What's the point?" All of the fighting amounts to nothing. They clearly can't hurt each other, so what does the fighting amount to, really? It just makes me kind of yawn in comparison to a film where every punch you're feeling a side advantage (an easy example would be the recent release of The Dark Knight Rises).
I could have done without the first twenty minutes of the film, too.
Kind of just had to get that out of the way. There were only a handful of funny one-liners or lighthearted moments, but I thought it served the tone of the film just fine.
3D was okay as well, but most definitely not necessary.
