    Amazon Kindle

Thinking about getting one so i can read at work. I have lots of downtime. Anyone have one or have any input on these.

I'll probably read about 6-10 books a year and would keep these for a couple years building up the library.

I like the cheapness of the ebooks than going to the store to buy them.

My wife uses the Kindle app on the iPad and really enjoys reading books that way. Seems like the best way to read books nowadays IMO.

We just bought one for my mom for her birthday. I'd never heard of them until my sister showed them to me. Very neat gadget.

I am planning to go to best buy later on this evening to buy one. I was holding off on it because I figured the Ipad would do the same thing plus a lot more, but I never got the Ipad, and don't really see a reason as to why I would still want the ipad, and so I'm going to just get the kindle.

I was thinking of getting my wife one for Christmas, but I hate to encourage her romance novel habit.

              Re: Amazon Kindle

I have a Nook (the Barnes and Noble e-reader) and I like it. I got that over the Kindle because the Nook would allow me to put the ebooks I get from the library here (they have a website) onto it, whereas Amazon doesn't let you do that.

I'm also considering getting an iPad at some point and will be able to read most books there (except for the library ones again)...

Overall they're both cool, you may want to look into the Nook Color that was just announced, that could be cool (I don't know much about it, but it's a color e-reader based on Android)

I'm thinking of getting one of these after seeing one in person for the first time the other day. I had just assumed it was like reading off a laptop screen with all the reflections / glare etc but it's amazing how it looks like reading real paper.

I have about 400 books sitting on my cpu in PDF format and I hear the newer kindle models can read these so i thought it would eventually pay for itself rather than me buying new books all the time (i read 1-2 books per month usually).

Has anyone who's had one for a while got any impressions on the Kindle?

I got one and my favorite thing about it, besides not having to carry my textbook like fantasy novels anymore, is that I can read it in full sunlight without that typical glare. The whole e-ink thing is great. Battery life is about a month on a full charge dependent on how much you use it. I'm always on the bus for work and have a bunch of down time and I still get a few weeks before I have to charge it again.

The only thing I don't really like is that a lot of the books don't go by page number but by location. I read with the latest update this might have changed. I haven't updated mine yet so I don't know. I have the wifi version btw.

Thanks for that man. Pretty sure I'm going to pull the trigger and pick one of these up.

Does it charge via usb or do i need to get a power adaptor to charge it?

You just have to plug it into the usb port on your cpu to charge it don't you Matt?

I just got the wifi model and it came with the usb cord and the wall outlet adapter. So you can charge it both ways.
