    Re: Amazon Kindle

If they work the same as the standard kindle I have, when you go into standby/turning it off, the screensavers come on. Instead of author portraits and various art,now you'll get ads.

yeah it will only come on as a screen saver when you put it down when you turn it off. It has never came on when i have read, and I go on reading for 2-3 hours at time.

i already took advantage of the $20 gift card for $10 bucks. its showing on there again I wonder if I can do it again.

So for 104 bucks, well worth it.

Got this case with it: http://www.amazon.com/Marware-Eco-Vu...797092&sr=8-14

Love it so far with the handstrap, makes it much more comfortable.

You are gonna love it. I use mine daily and will never go back to regular books, this thing is awesome (not to mention the free books that available as well)!

Since I bought one and raved about it my mother, a cousin and two friends have all gotten one as well and love it and my wife wants one for her birthday as well.

I'm real close to getting one. Still deciding on a 3G or WIFI only. Not sure I'm going to need the 3G. I figure I'll only buy books at home where I'll have WIFI anyway so what's the point?

I've been loving it on my iPod but draining my battery to read a book isn't as cool.

I was thinking the same thing...but 50 bucks for 3G...."forever"?...so I'm thinking "why not"? at the same time!

I was gonna get a wifi, but ended up getting 3G and it was a good decision. I buy more books when I'm away from the household and on trips or something.

                    Re: Amazon Kindle

I've just got the Wifi version and it suits me fine. I mean they are books which generally take ages to read so if I'm going away for a long trip I'll just download a few books before I go + you can always use the Wifi at places like McDonalds if you needed to.

If it was for streaming movies etc I could see the need for 3G but I haven't found a single occasion where I would have needed the 3G but go with what best suits you.

Yeah my mom has it and she loves it. I fly pretty often so I'm excited about getting it.

Finally received my Kindle Touch (WiFi + sponsors) yesterday and used it this morning.

                          Finally.

The one adjustment is lack of lighting. Been reading off my iPhone for two years now and got really used to both the small font and back-lit screen.

Kindle doesn't have that, but seeing that I do most of my reading on the train, it shouldn't be too much of a concern.

I've had much the same problem (bus instead of train) and there's two solutions:

                            1) External light source. You can buy a little clamp-on light for maybe $20, or you can buy a case with an integrated light for more -- the Amazon one is something like $50, but I've seen some cheaper 3rd-party ones. Good ones will run off the Kindle battery, which drains the battery a little faster, but then you don't have to worry about batteries for the lamp itself.

                            2) Unless it's totally dark, I can often get by just by bumping text size a few notches. OK, it looks like you're reading a children's book, but it gets the job done.

I've been good so far. I generally don't read in bed so I should be okay.

                              The train provides ample lighting.

                              I love this thing.
