Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

I have a couple of questions for you guys:

I am moving into my new house tomorrow. There is a projector screen system in the basement and I have the Direct TV guy coming out Saturday morning. I plan on having a 3 screen set up with the projector screen getting an HD mini genie, and the "#2" tv would also have ave mini genie hooked up to it. The 3rd tv would be hooked up to my laptop via an HDMI cable as well as my xbox/ps4. Is there some sort of component or HDMI splitter that I can run all of these devices into TV #3 at once or will I have to plug and unplug these devices to use them.

Also, looking to pick up a 60in tv for the living room. Anyone have a recommendation for one at a decent price point.

Lastly, I have to get a TV for the bedroom. What is a good size? How easy is it to mount a TV? Recommendations?

You'll need something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Kinivo-501BN-P...ds=HDMI+switch

That will give you 5 HDMI inputs.

As for the tv questions....what size range and how much is your budget?

For a bedroom tv....depends on what you want. Some would say 32" to 40" is plenty. I put a 50" plasma in a small-medium sized bedroom thinking it would be "too big" Nope--loved it.

For the living room I'm looking in the 60-70in range the bed room I'm looking at between 40-50in. I plan on mounting the bedroom tv. All in all I would like to stay under $2000

Yeah, when we upgraded our living room tv (47" LCD) we put the 37" LCD in the bedroom and it's not too big at all. In fact, after we moved into our house the bedroom's bigger so we wouldn't mind a bigger one lol

It's not in the plan for anytime soon, but now I want to get a 60-70" huge living room tv and then cascade the others around the house (bedroom gets 47", kids room or somewhere gets 37")

I could only see a tv being way too big if you have a super tiny room (like a dorm room or something)....otherwise, in most bedrooms or living rooms you'll find a spot where a big tv will be nice.

I need to mount ours on the wall one of these days, any advice on mounts? I would think I'd want one that can handle a future 60-70" tv, along with swivel and tilt, but haven't looked into them that much.

I got my eye on a few 50" plasma's. Help me make choice.

            LG Electronics 50PN6500 50-Inch 1080p 600Hz Plasma HDTV

            Panasonic TC-P50S60 50-Inch 1080p 600Hz Plasma HDTV

            Samsung - 51" Class (50-3/4" Diag.) - Plasma - 1080p - 600Hz - HDTV

Before you go buy a 50"+ TV for the bedroom, actually look at what size TV is good for the room and think about how much you'll use it. Why pay twice as much for something oversized that you may watch an hour a night, if that?

True, but with the current prices of budget friendly HDTVs...the price difference between a 32" and 42" or even 50" isn't all that much.

That is a good point...I only have a bigger tv in the bedroom because I wanted any type of tv there and made more sense to get a bigger living room tv and move the other one.

I'd always just get a better tv for my living room whenever buying a tv and then filter the rest down to other rooms...Exception was when I got a 150 LCD for the guest room on black friday...that was so cheap and it wasn't in the cards to spend 1k on a solid tv.

alright so after months of deliberating I am finally ready to pull the trigger this weekend on a TV + Sound Bar. I have been stuck on this tv for a few days and am leaning heavily towards it.

sound bar I am still unsure of as I have never had one before, any recommendations would be appreciated. Probably making the purchases on Saturday.

To be honest, ANY sound bar is going to be an upgrade over your tv speakers. You can spend as little as $75 up to $600. Just be sure to get one that has a subwoofer.

Here's offerings from Samsung (since that's the tv you're going with)

You could just get the soundbar (that has a subwoofer out jack) and get a better powered subwoofer.

I have a tv hooked up to a $75 Vizio sound bar but its paired with a 250W Yamaha sub.

My fiancée and I picked up a Yamaha sound bar almost a year ago. Model number is YAS-101 or something like that. We absolutely love it.

The sub is built in, but the sound quality has been very good and the bass is surprising (but not overpowering) for the size of the sound bar/being built in.

I think it's normally $200-250 or so, we got it on sale for $125/150-ish and couldn't be happier with it. Very simple. Power cord and optical audio cord and you're off and running.

I may be wrong with this but I believe PVarck picked up the same one as well several months back. You'd have to get confirmation from him though on that one.
