Just going on previous track records....the Samsung probably has the best picture quality.

Now the question boils down to if you think that increased PQ is worth an extra $500 over the Vizio.
So, it would be down to the Samsung and the Vizio out of the three, correct?

Would the extra $500 be worth it in "your opinion" over the cheaper Vizio?

Speaking strictly for me, I would audition the Vizio first. If I get it home and don't like it after a week or so....pack it up and send it back. Only thing it cost me was the 1 hour of time to pack it back up and return to best buy or the post office (to ship back to Amazon).

You said it yourself that you like all 3. Is that based on viewing them or just going by their spec sheet?

If I'd be satisfied with either of the 3, save the $500 that can be spent on something else like upgrading my audio surround sound system.

A lot of people buy a new tv, but then use the crappy speakers that come with the tv. The audio is just as important.

So if you were to buy a 50 inch TV for mainly gaming what technology is most preferred around here?

          Thanks for the reply.

Would the picture quality of the Vizio compare to the PQ of the Samsung and would it be worth the extra $500? I have not went and actually looked at these sets yet. I am just going by specs. That said I need a set that has 4 HDMI inputs. Both of these do. My question basically is, based on brand name alone does the Vizio compare to Samsung? I don't want a brick or a lemon.

I feel safe saying the Samsung is the better tv, but is it $500 better. That will depend on who you ask. At the end of the day, it's not my money it's yours. Amazon has a longer return window (30 days)....Best Buy its only 14 or 15 days.

Samsung is definitely the higher name brand with Vizio's getting returned more often. But you can get a lemon from any brand.

            Put another way:
I KNOW you'll be happy with the Samsung.

You will probably be satisfied with the Vizio (and save $500)

I'd try to look at both at a local best buy.

Thx so much for your help. I have tried posting on other forums like avf with No response on there so thx alot for your help.

What about plasmas, I have heard that the plasma technology is pretty much dying/dead. I have always heard plasmas are great for sports and gaming, which I will be doing the most of, but was always worried about burn in. I just always stuck with the LCD/LED technology. I am pretty positive I will go that route again this time.

Also, at my price point is there a TV you would recommend personally?

I am down to these TV's at my price point.

                  Samsung 60" Model No.-UN60F6300AFXZA $1,499.99

                  LG 60" Model No.-60LM7200 $1,499.99

                  Vizio 60" Model No. E601I-A3 $999.99

The Samsung and the Vizio are both 120HZ but the LG is 240HZ and is also 3D. I'm not that interested in the 3D technology but it would be an added bonus. I like these sets as all 3 are in my price range (the Vizio is 500 bucks cheaper) and all 3 have 4 HDMI inputs. I am also a huge console gamer and loves watching sports, so take that into consideration when recommending me a set.

                  Thanks for the help!
Go with the Samsung. LG and Vizio use black slides to fill in their refresh rate gaps, where as Samsung and Sony have a processor that predicts the image, resulting in a better picture, and taking away the soap opera effect. The only true 240hz panels are from Samsung and Sony.

I wouldn't buy another TV besides Sony or Samsung from this point on. I see Vizio's either returned or sent out to service every day. They are the most common TV with problems, because they're some of the cheapest.

I prefer plasmas over LCD/LED. They handle motion the best. You do have to be more careful with them, especially the first 100 hours or so. Burn in is hard to do but still possible if you leave static images or black bars on the screen for hours and have the TV in vivid mode. you want the phosphors to age evenly.

Way more likely to see temporary image retention. That goes away pretty quickly on most of today's plasmas.

Yea. I'm going to go to BEST Buy and check the sets out and give them a look. I know I will be satisfied with the Samsung, just need to Make sure I'll be 500 dollars more satisfied.

I just don't know if I would be satisfied with a plasma. I have seen burn in and it really spooks me. I'm pretty sitems I'll go with an LED.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

So i have two more follow up questions and THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the advice and just for this thread in general. I'm always on this site and trust the opinions. It is just handled nicely here.
I've sort of narrowed my decisions down but with a caveat. I'm scrapping the idea of the Vizio just because I keep reading too many horror stories even for their M series, so it's looking like two Sonys.
1.Sony KDL-55W802A which is 1500 from Best Buy
                        or
2.Sony KDL-55W900A which is 1999 from Best Buy

Seems like the only difference between the two is the 120 vs 240 refresh rate? Is it going to be something I really notice? They both have the best industry input lag according to Cnet. I'll be watching a lot of sports on this tv and games. Movies/Netflix as well but less than the other content.

Here is the caveat though. It keeps popping up to me that Plasma really still is superior to LED for both lag, motion, and everything and cheaper. I'm aware that what spooks people away from Plasma is mostly a thing of the past so should i really be looking at Plasma instead? The room isn't THAT bright in my living room and I do have shades to lower if it turned out to be a super bright day. Also, my favorite sport is hockey which normally is played in the evening anyway. If I get either of those two Sonys, am i basically sacrificing just for the heck of it when I can just get a Plasma instead? I'd want a "55 inch though which seems harder to come by. Help!

I too have looked at plasmas but I always turn away after hearing some of the horror stories. I know with me being a big gamer and a sports fanatic that a plasma would fit that but I'm going to probably go LED. My room is pretty dark though so that could play a factor. I might just check out some plasmas but will probably stick with my gut.

If the only difference is 120Hz vs. 240Hz save your money. You really just need to avoid 60Hz. Watch this episode of HDNation (you can skip to the listener questions toward the end)

If you go to Best Buy, definitely check out the Panasonic plasma ST60 it's $1500

I just got back from there. 2 TV's really caught my eye. The Panny ST60 was playing Madagascar 3. The blacks were inky making the picture pop.

And the Sonk 4K display. Dang, that's a beautiful picture. You literally have to put your nose on the screen to start barely seeing pixels. It's almost unfair to directly go back to looking at 1080p displays after seeing that in action for 5-10 minutes.

                            $4K for a 4K display. Sticker shock.
