Oh, I definitely have. In fact, that's what I had my eye on for quite some time (plus the Pioneer Elite Kuro series, if I was really thinking about shelling $6000 on a television within the next couple of years). But, after even more extensive research, I think that the Samsung PND7000 series is the way for me to go. I wasn't sold on it for the longest time, until about a few weeks ago when I started to read more reviews about it.

    I'm still unsure, though...

EDIT: And let me clarify that when I said I had my eye on it, I was referring to the VT30, not the GT or the ST.

Stay away from the Panny unless you get their top of the line model

The gama on those sets are so bad especially on the GT model

Blacks look good but washed out in many cases because you cannot edit the gamma in their txh mode which is the best pre set on the set.

It also suffers from hideous pops/ the screen flickers from bright to dim a lot to the point of ruining the experience.

I returned mine after a week and got the samsung.

Panny is a top of the line model but only on their top of the line set this year

Okay, so looking at this, Fry's has the TV for $1719. The tax would obviously raise the toll on how much the television costs, but Best Buy wouldn't have a problem with price-matching another retailer, correct? Only other real issue would be that Best Buy does not hold this TV in store. I wonder if I can price match and purchase in-store, and then pick it up when it ships there or something. Very interesting, indeed...

Oh, and this is probably a stupid question (and also slightly off-topic), but if I get a TV stand with the 59" screen, and I find some that say "Up to 55 inches," what is it that kills the extra four inches of the screen where they can't guarantee success for you? Is it in the weight, the size?

In other words, would it be okay for a 59" TV like this (which is a slim design, by the way) to sit on top of a 55" compatible stand?

Are there stands that people would recommend for this TV, or at a certain price?

Blzr, Samsung is about to start a Bundle Promotion in the next couple of days. I would keep my eye for it.

Don't worry, I'm probably not pulling the trigger for another 6 weeks or so haha, I'm not about to run to Best Buy or whatever and unload on this TV.

But yeah, the only reason I would is if I find the right bundle. Hopefully these aren't just bundles with Blu-ray players added, because I already have my PS3 for that. I'm banking on it including a 3D starter kit, though (some glasses and animated movies).

I'll be on the lookout for sure. I'm itching to complete my HT setup (for now, till I upgrade my subs).

Not sure if BB will match Fry's price but you can ask and most likely they would.

I do not think there would be much issue with the stand you looked at

My father bought a stand that was for tv's 46 and his Pioneer Elite is 50 inches

              Works fine

Yea the Blu Ray is garbage anyway, the PS3 much better for that

The 3D glasses is a nice get but hate that they are run on batteries.

I got 2 with all the shrek movies and megamind

Sweet deal and Amazon usually goes with that in their bundles.

                Good Luck man

Thanks, guys. You are all of great help so far. Chances are when I go for this, it will be an Amazon order. That tax is very... erm... "taxing" when it comes to the overall price in a retail store.

I'll probably look for 60" stands anyway, because I think the TV's width might be the issue when it comes to fitting on a 55" stand.

So tempted to pick up the Panny 65" VT30 today, as it's the last day for an Amazon promo. The fact that I can pick it up for $3200 is pretty hard to resist (along with the free shipping/delivery via Prime). I also like the 70" Sharp for sheer size, but plasma blacks are hard to resist.

EDIT: I should add that I don't give a crap about the 3D, I just want a top of the line TV, preferably plasma, to replace a four year old Sony LCD.

Amazon has the pn64d8000 for significantly less. This TV won the HDTV shootout last week. Good Black Levels & the Best Color Accuracy of any TV on the market.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

Okay, so I did some actual TV browsing today.

                        Video Only

I don't know if you guys have this store around you, but I always get the "You'll be sorry" slogan popping up in their commercial on the radio, so I thought I'd actually go check it out. It's just a store with TV's, and at pretty good prices to boot. The sales guys wanted to pitch some special things they said they had, etc., and for the most part it all sounded pretty sweet. The biggest problem was that they only carried the D8000 series, not the D7000.

Anyway, their PN59D8000 was just about $2000. Not bad, I mean it could have been worse. They said they could probably knock off enough to make it $2000 after tax, plus adding a combo pack with a BD player and glasses, and make it a twelve month down payment. I took the guy's card and said he would hold my interest.

                        Best Buy

The reason I didn't see the right models on the floor before was because they were in the Magnolia section, which I forgot to check out last time. Anyway, they had the PN59D8000 and the PN64D7000 showcased one on top of the other. the 64" screen was in movie mode, and it looked pretty damn nice to me. The guy said that they could do any price matching with Fry's or whoever it is I would do it with, and it's a 90-day price guarantee, so if it went any lower I could always do it then. They also had the same deal with the glasses, which go on until next week.

The 64" screen is appealing to me as well, but I think I can settle for 59" without having to pay upwards to $800 more for five more inches. At any rate, I think doing it at Best Buy might be my most appropriate option as we speak. I like the return policy they mentioned, I like how I don't have to deal with online crap, I can add points to my RZ account, and I can also look at stands at the same time while I'm there. For some reason, I brainfarted and had it in my head that Amazon was tax-free, and instead I confused that with free shipping. Tax included, Best Buy would be a cheaper option if you include the $40 I would get back in RZ points plus the combo pack they include (no actual Blu-ray discs in the pack, but the glasses are a plus).

I think it now just comes down to convincing my parents.

I was actually told about that, but I'm not a part of the RZ Mastercard program, something which I think is required to gain that benefit. I'll have to explore that more, though.

EDIT: By the way, the Magnolia guy tried to sell me on some Panamax power surge protector. What on earth is that $2000 thing? lol

I lived on my own for five years, and was making chump change at the time. Now I'm back home, working, and saving up to move out. Of course, I'm dumping $2000 back on a TV lol.

Plus, it wouldn't matter if I lived on my own. This decision effects them none-yuh. It's my money, and it's landing in my room. It's just a matter of an internal discussion involving responsibility and proper management.
