Like I said, my viewing distance will be just over 8 feet away, and that's within the recommended range for a 59" screen, so I'm not going to worry about that too much.

My receiver is the Yamaha RX-V667. I seem to recall paying over $600 for this back in February, but I love it regardless. My two subs are from my old HTiB and from my Harman Kadron speaker set that I bought packaged with the Yamaha for another extra $100 (though it is a much more expensive set, it was just a good deal is all). Unfortunately, I don't use any of those speakers anymore with my new center channel and bookshelf upgrades (and they won't mount to my speaker stands, which sucks).

I want to trade in those two subs for one sub, either a Bic F12 or something else just north of $200. I might have to do that anyway, because given the new TV stand I will get for this television, I will only be able to fit one sub in my room at this point.

In a small room this tv is overwhelming. And it lets off a lot of heat.

Hope you move out soon so you can put it in your living room where it belongs.

He thought "3 years no interest" meant that he didn't have to pay anything for 3 years and got the TV for free for the first 3 years. He then struggled paying for it after the 3 years and it went downhill from there.

Here's my simple rule of thumb. NEVER buy anything (outside of a house/car) that you don't currently have the disposable cash to purchase. The only use of a credit card is ease of use that should be paid in full at the end of every month (ie: I'm not bringing $3000 to the store to buy a TV or writing a check...I'll just put it on my CC and pay it off at the end of that month). Of course there are extraneous circumstances, like a single parent trying to make ends meet to provide for their children, but otherwise, it's not a good idea.
No doubt, great analogy, but did You forget this is America, debt is our first name.

Duly noted, especially since my room doesn't have AC. Thanks for the advice!

Blzer, how soon would you be moving? Within a year?

If a move is going to be a year or more away I can't see the reasoning behind getting the big tv now.

Considering your room size, I'd go with a 42" 1080p plasma. Then after the move, go big. You can always move the smaller set to a different room.

I just hate moving big flat panels (50"+). So many things that could go wrong, especially going up flights of stairs.

          Good luck.

Yeah, it'll be longer than a year away. I'd just rather go big now. I already spoke about it to the parents, and they had to give some feedback (size unconcerning), but I think I'll be able to get it done within the week (so I can take advantage of the bundled package at Best Buy).

I really do appreciate your concern for things that could go wrong, but I've actually had my heart set on this TV for a while. I sometimes get some impulse to finally pull the trigger on things, though. I can't really go "halfway" with this purchase right now, I'd rather just go all out. I don't mind it one bit. It will undoubtedly look huge in my room, but it will also look nice as well.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

Okay, I just took a couple of pictures of my room. Pardon me for not having a flash-active camera, but these should suffice.

These first few shots are different angles of my current set-up, or viewing angle that I have of my television if I were to sit on my bed and watch a movie. Keep in mind that I normally sit up at my desk if I am to play games, so I'm not too far away from my TV (23" Samsung LN-T2353H LCD HDTV wedged perfectly into the desk furniture).

This is approximately 7 1/2 feet from my TV, and as you can see, it definitely sticks out from the back wall. This entire desk area will be replaced by my new stand and TV, which will sit much more closely to the wall (to add 6+ inches of viewing distance).

My desk will move over to the right of my room, where my window and stuff is. I cleaned out what was previously there (Rock Band drum kit and other random assortments). The desk itself comes in two, so I can detach the top portion (so I'm not obstructing my window at all, like I look out of it anyway lol) and just sit the LCD back on its old little mount. This will now be my regular work desk.

Forgive my bed not currently being made, but the back wall shows my seating position, as well as my two rear surround speakers planted behind it all. Nothing will have to be changed here.

I know you all are concerned for what I'm changing, but it will work just fine. I was simply asking for suggestions when it came to how the reconfiguring process will actually work, not necessarily whether the decision I'm making to get this TV is a good one haha.

I hear ya man. We are all entitled to a researched "impulse" buy every now and again.

I highly suggest keeping the box to make the eventual move easier.

OK...Blzer has some major dosh...and will have the greatest bedroom in Southern California, LOL.

Any thoughts on the Panny VT30? I saw that Amazon increased the price to Best Buy/Vanns, but I'm still likely to buy the 65" from them due to free shipping and no tax. I'm a sucker for the THX, but Giants...Mr. TV Guru, point me in the right direction, since you own EVERYTHING!

Well, no longer paying rent (I'm back up in Nor Cal, btw) and I'm going to take up BBY on their 36 months/no interest deal, so I will definitely be able to make it happen.

VT30 has color accuracy issues even in THX Mode. My vote is the Samsung Pn64d8000. It was voted best TV @ the flat-panel shootout 2 weekends ago.

I personally attended that event & felt it was the 2nd best display only behind the Sharp Elite LED LCD. Which BTW cost more than double the Sammy

I think I only mentioned it to CZ over meebo, but I agree. I walked into the Magnolia section of Best Buy, and they were looping the intro of Casino Royale on Blu-ray. I watched the entire scene on the 70" monster, and my body went limb as I did. I have not seen a better picture before in my life. That. Thing. Owned.

I am not about to buy an $8000 TV though lol.

The Elite is a helluva display. It does have some color issues also. But the Black Levels & On/Off Contrast Ratio are the best on the market right now. People with disposable income will buy it without question once they see the image it displays.

You saw an uncalibrated Elite & was WOW'd, wait until you see it calibrated :o
