Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

59d6500 either has to go back or be fixed...I've decided the buzzing is unacceptable. I would have decided that a month ago if I didn't live on the 3rd floor of my apt complex and work a ton - was hard enough to find a time to have it delivered (plus they brought ONE person who asked me to help carry it up, LMAO...****ing people)

spent weekend at my buddies and came back to my place, turned on TV and just wanted to cry at the fact I can't watch my tv in total peace and quiet

after reading about the buzzing I'm convinced mine is quite a bit worse than normal

I think mine is as well, but in case mine isn't, I'm not going to dismount my TV and ship it back for another one at this point (especially since I've been breaking in this one, and there aren't any other major problems with it).

I wonder if some sort of magnetism can hinder the loud buzzing sound.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

Buzzing is normal on samsung plasmas...Last years models were horrible but it is what it is...

After a couple of weeks it would not bother you at all...It is what it is

Mine buzzes still after a few months but I only hear it when it is a bright screen and no sound is coming.

Which is very rare since I like to hear sound when watching tv

I must be lucky then. My PN64D7000 is absolutely silent. The only time I can hear any buzz at all is if I completely mute my receiver and put my ear directly up to the top part of the screen and even then it is ever so faint.

Same here...although I took the plunge earlier than most on here as I have the PN63C8000. No buzz unless I am directly above the TV.

You guys are considerably lucky. Maybe if I record a video of mine, the mic will pick up the buzz so you guys can see what I'm dealing with.

Unless you hear buzz when watching tv then it is irrelevant because the tv buzzes when no sound is heard.

I guess you'll just have to trust me that it's apparent at any time while watching it, pretty much. Then again, I would have to listen for it to notice there's a buzz if there was a very loud scene going on.

I'm just wondering if one of those surge protectors will help reduce the noise here.

A Surge Protector is not gonna reduce the buzzing. What a good Surge Protector will do is protect your equipment from any type of Power Surge. Now that you have a almost $2,000 TV I would highly recommend getting yourself 1.

                      This above

I hear buzz when there is zero volume. But also the fact that you have your big tv in a small room and based on the pictures you do not sit far from tv, it would be much easier to hear buzz...Perhaps

I've read reports of people being more then twelve feet away from their sets, and still hear buzzing.

It's not just an overall defective sounding buzz, but it's a directional buzz that's beyond what the TV normally should do. For instance, if I put a pillow up between my ears and the television set, that buzz completely disappears. The only thing I hear at that point is the normal plasma screen hum (which isn't quite as distinct, is quite natural, and I have zero problems with). Also, if I'm center stage against the screen, that's when it's the loudest. If I move even so much as an inch away from any side of the screen (including top and bottom), the directional buzzing once again completely goes away.

I just didn't know what was causing this, but it's more than perceivable to my ears. No matter, I will have to live with it. I'm not returning this bad boy.

Blzer, also another cause of the buzz too sometimes is if one of the A boards is going bad. That was one of the bigger issues with some of last years Panny's.

Like I said several posts back, if you are on a white screen the buzz will be bad. If you are also sitting dead center, you can experience that buzz. I wish I had that thread on AVS I was reading earlier this year on some of the stuff people were doing to cut down the buzzing, it was freaking hilarious. People were even spending a few hundred dollars to get power conditioners thinking it would take the buzz away which it didn't. I've been lucky to only hear it on white screens with my Panny, but I've read about much worse with others. I usually sit to the left of the screen and do not hear any buzzing at all, even when I'm sitting center I don't hear anything but boy when a white screen comes up you can hear it. Good luck man with whatever you choose to do with it.

A day and a half until the slides are complete. Now to figure out my connections as well as how to baby the thing. I want to, but shouldn't, jump in to a LOTR marathon.

I figure I'll probably start re-watching LOST, or BSG, Planet Earth/Life, or some other 16x9 show in order to add some more hours of varied content first. After a 2.35:1 movie or some gaming I'll just run the wipe function right after.

Dude, I'm like scared ****less to watch anything that's 2.35:1 or play any games right now. I literally start trembling when something is on the screen far too long, and I've run the slides for well over 120 hours by now.

I gotta stop babying it, though. If there is going to be IR, now is the time for me to figure out how much there will be. I figure it's better to make an exchange earlier than later, you know?

I watch a lot of 2:35:1 and 2:40:1 content and my set leaves IR for a few seconds of both bars and then disappear. Don't worry about it, you will be good.
