Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

    I have a question.

I will be getting the Samsung UN60F6300. I will be replacing my Toshiba 50" LCD (not LED) set. I was wondering if I can use the same wall mount for my 60" as I am now using for my 50" LCD Toshiba? I really don't want to buy a new wall mount.

Everyone else here will tell you that there's not a perceivable difference at that size, which is bull****. Perhaps it's not worth it based on the price increase and the TV itself, though. Personally I would look into it myself if I was going to be watching my Blu-rays on it, but considering hardly any current-gen games are 1080p and cable doesn't broadcast in 1080p, there's definitely not much worth unless you watch movies or are getting a PS4.

        Vizio (E601i-A3)
        Panasonic (TC-58LE64)

The Vizio has the least input lag, according to displaylag.com. However, I'd prefer to go with one of the other brands. Is input lag something I really need to be concerned about? This TV is for my new man cave, so there will be a lot of gaming, sports, and blu-rays. Thanks, guys.
Sight unseen, when dealing with LCD/LED ....Sony and Samsung generally deliver the best reliability and picture quality. Just based on track record--I have no personal experience with any of the displays you provided.

It's Samsung and Panasonic when dealing with plasmas.

I haven't had any input lag issues on either of our LEDS. We have a 55" Samsung and 47" (I believe) LG and both have been amazing. Samsung is our preferred brand for TV (and has been for quite some time) but we'd also put an LG or Sony in our house any day of the week if we got a good deal on it.

Thanks for the insight, man. I've seen all of the sets in person and they all seem to have good PQ. Right now, I'm leaning toward the Panny. I need to do another sweep and look at the TVs, again. I'll purchase around Thanksgiving.

Can't really say without knowing the model of the wall mount. It could be rated for 32"-50" or it could be 40"-70" (or any combination). The actual mounting to the TV is a universal standard. So a Panasonic Plasma has the same pattern as a Samsung LED - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Di...ting_Interface
The size of that pattern is what matters and the weight of the TV.

If you do have to get another one get it from www.monoprice.com.

Thx. I'm pretty sure the LED is going to weight less than the LCD so I guess it should be a matter of if it fits on the mount. Correct?

On my LG lcd tv their is a clear white option that has 3 settings off, low and high. Should this be turned on or just left off. I know it makes the white's whiter but does it do more harm than good to the picture. Thanks

Clear white sounds like something that will extend the color spectrum, and only a few sources are capable of handling that without clipping. For most, it could just be an eye-pleaser in general if they're not looking for professional calibration, so I'd say play with it and see what setting you like most. There's a good chance it will affect flesh tones though since most of those have hues high on that spectrum, so don't ever sacrifice poor skin colors for "better whites."

Ok thanks I have fiddled with it and it makes the whites look better and the skin tones still look fine so I guess I'll try it for awhile and see. If I see it making other things look off then I'll just leave it off.

Break it in good. The ST's have a huge problem with burn ins. My ST50 was broken in with 200 hours of slides and never burns in. My friends, has a huge ESPN logo on it.

How's the input lag, read cnet review and said it's bad but most don't even notice it. Burn in tho, right now I have a 50in plasma that I bought in 08 and it's samsung so I don't know if burn in is present but the tv seems fine.
