Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

lol do not buy a Black Friday tv.

    1. They are mass produced TVs. So have fun possibly having to deal with screen cracks out of the box, pixel damage out of the box, etc.

    2. Have fun only having 2 HDMI inputs, enough said.

    3. Black Friday TVs are simply what they are, cheap TVs.

      ^^That's a good thought.

Looks like I'm leaning towards the Samsung.

Fry's.com has the Samsung UN60F6300 for 1,199.99 and Best Buy price matches. Looks like I'm getting that Sammy.

I have an LG 42" lcd tv and was wondering is the picture wizard that is built in a reliable way of adjusting the tv? Thanks.

Yes it is. I have a 37" in the bedroom and used the Picture Wizard to set it up.

            Picture looks great

If it doesn't produce desirable results you can usually google the model number and find people who have produced good settings of their own.

Go over to the AVS forums and search for your model number. Pretty sure somebody will have already posted their tv settings.

Ok thanks for the responses guys much appreciated. I have mine set on standard and looks great so I don't know how much I will tweak it. Game mode I have tweaked a bit as that usually looks more dull on default.

Spot on and very good advice. However, I have bought the Emerson HDTV from Walmart a BF or two ago for my mother. It's clearly a cheap tv, but it was just fine for her and its not a bad set for the price I paid.

I'm holding out to see if any of the good tv's that are on my list are going to be on sale at all. Definitely not going for a cheap set for my PS4 experience.

True for the door buster tvs. Usually generic brands or stripped down versions of brand names. Those are intended to increase foot traffic in the stores. As long as you don't get a lemon--they can serve a purpose. TV for a dorm room, kids room, workout room etc. Definitely not your main display though.

Not necessarily true for the tvs that are available all day on Black Friday or the pre-Black Friday deals. Obviously these don't have as steep a discount (but usually better than the typical weekly ad).

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

I was really only referencing TV's that are advertised for Black Friday. For instance, Samsung will have a TV mainly made for Black Friday, which is their 6030 series this year, and most likely the 6003 model. Already, we've seen a ton of issues with this TV, so guess what? Huge savings on Black Friday. Of course the 40" Toshiba's for $150 or whatever they are can be a steal for the bedroom or workout room, but like said, don't buy this as your main television. Another thing to consider, if you're considering buying a sound bar, a lot of the Black Friday televisions do not have audio outputs.

Also, for anyone who is looking for decent tower speakers, the Klipsch towers like always, will most likely be 50% off. It's a heck of a deal that you can't pass up if you want surround sound. Start preparing, Magnolia is having their audio month, 20-30% off receivers right now. You don't always have to do it in one shot.

Another system to look out for is the Polk Blackstones. If you don't have the space for towers, it's a great little set up.

Rumors are that Best Buy may open at 8pm this year, which I really hope isn't true. Midnight is about as early as it should be.

Yeah, the horn is something people either love or hate, the Klipsch VP even told me this when I was at a convention they were at. Most people love the sound of them.

Has anyone had any bad experiences with input lag on LED TVs? I have a ~$1000 budget and am looking at these 60" sets:

                              LG (60LN5400)
                              Vizio (E601i-A3)
                              Panasonic (TC-58LE64)
                              Samsung (UN60EH6003)

The Vizio has the least input lag, according to displaylag.com. However, I'd prefer to go with one of the other brands. Is input lag something I really need to be concerned about? This TV is for my new man cave, so there will be a lot of gaming, sports, and blu-rays. Thanks, guys.

Hey guys, thought I'd ask here. I'm looking for a "smallish" bedroom TV, mainly for consoles/blu ray. Is it worth looking at 1080p(compared to 720p) on a 27" or 32"? I keep hearing about not much of a difference on smaller TV's. There seems to be a notable price difference among the two.
