Ha - I read through this thread and already know my answer, but what the hell.

Samsung PN51D7000 or UN47D7000?

It all depends on what you are mostly into Pared.

If you watch tons of sports and movies then Plasma is the way to go

If you like to use your laptop on your tv and play tons of games and have a room with a lot of ambient light then the LED is the better choice.

I have the PN59D7000 and it is an amazing set rated the best overall package by CNET

Colors are the best and blacks are inky. The issue that I did have is that the madden score bar on the top was left on my screen even though I never paused the game for a long time

It has taken me almost a month an a half to get rid of it mostly by running the slides and the pixel orbiter from time to time.

Plasmas are darker in terms of brightness compared to LED's but no question that the Plasma is the better tv of the 2 you mentioned, and I think cheaper in price

IR is the only thing swaying me towards the UN. I really don't want to be bothered with being concerned about the issue. Considering I'm obsessive to a fault at times it's something I really need to consider.

Like BFJ stated, other options are good to like Panasonic but their colors are not as good as the Samsungs

Other things to consider when it comes to plasma is that they provide incredible uniformity unlike the LED plus input lag is far less of an issue on the plasma version compared to the LED version.

Over saturated colors are nice for gaming and I feel you on that but the Samsung set offers realistic colors for most o your daily needs including Blu Ray movies which look absolutely incredible

Ambient light is also key since plasmas really look their best in dark rooms but LED can look great in day or night.

The 240hz is still going to cause a bit of motion blur from time to time in fast paced scenes unlike the plasmas which do not suffer from that.

Another negative on the plasma is that it has the infamous floating blacks or brightness pops from time to time when scenes go from dark to light. Very annoying at times and this is done on purpose by Samsung to meet the energy regulations.

I do not believe this is an issue with the LED.

Regardless I am sure you will love both sets as they are made by a top flight company

No real budget - looking for the best bang for my buck, always.

I want to stay in the 46-55" range. I'm very particular about my set size so I don't want to "go big or go home" for the hell of it.

To be honest, I see the raves from Plasma owners but I see just as equal the fear of IR. The LED owners of the UN model seem to not have an issue with this, from what I've read (or at least it's not noticeable).

If you can't tell by now I'm leaving towards the UN (actually just going back and forth with a slight preference for the LED). I can be sold on Plasma, just don't know if the buzzing, heat, and IR are worth the extra inches and concern for the savings.

I'm completely undecided despite the fact that I say I'm not.

Sounds like you made up your mind...

But in all honesty I would choose the plasma because it is a better tv then the LED.

But it seems that you are in love with the LED for what it offers which is still a darn good picture.

The PN51D7000 is a top of the line set...There is no debating that part

Pared right now Sony might be a better bet if you go LED. I also would take a look @ Toshiba since they have very good gaming response times & great motion software.

The UN is a good TV, but it suffers from clouding & flashing due to it being an Edge Lit LED.

When I get home I'll put up some links to some possible choices for you

Blzr sounds like we have the same buzz issue. Mine is horrible from dead center and I can hear it along with the sound at normal levels. It's a very unpleasant buzz, with some rattling/static sound to it. But if I position my head to one side of the TV or lay down so my head is under it, I don't hear it anymore.

For $1500 it bothers me. If I could mount the TV higher I would be fine, but I'm in an apt.

Also I've had zero IR on this TV at all and I really didn't worry about it any from the first day. Never seen one ounce of it

I'll have to go see this one in person.

Cyber Monday is a good idea. You also can buy now & try a price match if that set goes on sale on Cyber Monday.

Am I reading that right? You have your tv plugged directly into the wall outlet? If so, that's asking for trouble.

Nooo, I have it plugged into a multi-outlet strip.






Let it be known that this is the first time I had ever even heard of surge protectors before.
