Re: Plasma or LCD?
I just purchased a Panasonic TC-P50GT25 plasma and had a few questions. Besides the contrast being turned down to 50% what about the other settings like Brightness etc? Also, is it ok if I run the set in THX mode while breaking it in if I keep the contrast down? The pixel orbiter is currently set to "automatic", should I manually set it to cycle more frequently? The manual settings are 1,2,3 or 4 minutes.
Any help in getting started would be appreciated. Thanks!
I have the Panny G20 which is the non 3D version of your set. I watch TV, BD, and play my games on THX mode. It's going to vary by your environment, but this is what I'm using. I had my brightness set to 50 the first few weeks and have put it up to 60 now since I have about 700 hours on this set.
I didn't use slides for the first 200 hours since I bought the TV open item as it was a return from a customer. It was sitting with the best buy looping video for 180+ hours.
Picture mode: THX
Contrast: +49
Brightness: +60
Color: +54
Tint: -2
Sharpness: +58
--Advanced picture submenu
3:2 pulldown: On
Color temp: Warm 2
Color mgmt: Off
x.v. Color: Off
C.A.T.S.: Off
Video NR: Off
Blur reduction: On
The first 2-3 weeks I went crazy worrying about gaming on this set with image retention fearing burn-in. The nice thing is that this fear went away which is good.
If you have questions, PM me or shoot away on here. I'll try to help in anyway that I can.......since I started this thread, I've become a pro. LOL!Last edited by CaptainZombie; 02-06-2011, 07:33 PM.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD?
Personally, I'd recommend breaking it in with slides. I ran the slides at night when I was asleep and during the day while at work for a week and got past the 150-200 hours. I still watched TV at night though. The only reason I recommend it is that I have yet to see even the slightest hint of IR. I even left Call of Duty paused on a screen for a good 45min one night when I let my dog out and he ran over to the neighbors to play with their dog. Forgot about the pause...came back into the house all worried I'd see IR, but nothing...not even a little bit. Maybe that was due to breaking it in or maybe I just got lucky...don't know, but I have read about IR problems with the C8000 on AVS so maybe breaking in did help? My theory is that it won't hurt so why not?“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD?
Well I jumped...
TV
Main reason was it was 999.99 this week and came with the 3D started kit. The 3D kit was on back order but I'll have in a couple weeks.
Also had 100.00 in BB gift cards so I went ahead and got the 2 year extended warranty. All came from bonus money for this year.
Hooked it up last night. Turned down contrast, made sure everything was full screen for now, found the game mode settings etc...
Picture is AMAZING!
Has burn in protection and the "Sweep" thingy that wipes the screen etc..
Hooked it up to network and right away it was able to see music, Videos and pictures on all PC's and Laptops.
I'll probably go out this week and get a pair of the 3D glasses to check it out also. I need 4 total anyways.
I'm still nervous about Plasma but once I get through a week or so I'll be less nervous.
One thing I found was when trying to hook the audio out to surround receiver I could not find it...then realized it had no component audio out(that I could find anyways) but then noticed it had optical out. Hooked it up and I'm good to go.Last edited by Skyboxer; 02-08-2011, 09:09 AM.Joshua:

Re: Plasma or LCD?
"The firm said the aggressive rollout of LED-backlit LCD TVs caused a significant slowdown in the decline in LCD TV average prices, and with the increased importance of value in many markets, plasma TV was very competitive with LCD in greater-than-40-inch market segments."

Re: Plasma or LCD?
a lil help here guys..
we are moving into our new house within the next month or two (almost finished etc)
the living room is a decent size, so we have a perfect place to mount a new TV.
i just won some extra cash from this OS Matchup stuff ($800). the limit the old lady and i wanted to stick to even before the extra cash was $1500. still sticking to that, as the other money can be used else where.
now, i will have a man cave, so this wont get any serious gaming done on it so to speak (at leasts thats the plan lol). an xbox will be hooked up to it, with a kinnect. while the other xbox will be in my cave.
so, for that limit, what do you guys recommend? i havent looked online much as of yet, but figured to see what you guys thought. i was hoping to get at least a 55inch, plasma or lcd, dont matter much to me really (or should it) just bc i know the led lcd's are gonna be high in price, which means a smaller screen.
so, any suggestions?

Did you get a bundle with yours? I got the Shrek 1-4 bundle so my wife and I have watched 3 of those in 3D. They look pretty good. I've heard they aren't the best 3D representations though. Avatar obviously is top dog from what I've read and I also heard A Christmas Carol is right behind it. Unfortunately Panasonic has sole rights to Avatar right now...unless you want to pay $150+ on eBay for it. I believe that exclusivity ends in 2012.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD?
Very nice. Definitely check out 3D when you get a chance...the 2D to 3D conversion is actually very good. I watched a movie on TNT HD and put the conversion on - not bad at all.

Re: Plasma or LCD?
I'm one click away from ordering this T.V. (The wife is telling me to pull the trigger so all systems are go.) lol
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Does anyone have any experience with this T.V.? I'm going to be making a gaming office in my basement and I will not have to worry about light. I will also be fairly close to the T.V. so 42 is about perfect.
My worries are that I'm going to get burn in and that the black levels are going to turn grey on me.
Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.Comment
