Re: Plasma or LCD?
Thought I'd put up a few pictures of the new TV/setup. I'd love to get something other than the smaller satellite speakers, but my wife wants something small that isn't noticeable. These actually pack a good punch so I'm happy with them. Also threw in a side picture as many can't believe how thin the C8000 Plasma is. What's funny is the TV doesn't look that big in the pictures, but it is 63". This room is about 19-20ft long and I sit around 14ft away where the pictures were taken. Not the best quality, but here they are:

It looks like he has a few audio panels on the back wall which is really cool. I bet he might have used some sort of twist ties. Looks very neat compared to my current mess. LOL!Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD?
I just hung my new 42 inch LCD this past weekend, it's the third TV I've hung and was able to do it by myself without much strain. Anything bigger, though, I would have needed help to set the TV on the mount.
We have a 40 inch in the bedroom that we put on a swivel mount. That definitely required an additional person to help as the connection of the TV to the mount is not nearly as simple as a basic mount.
I helped my father in law mount his 56 inch and that was simple as well, just needed the two of us to lift and set the tv in place.
Also, monoprice.com has mounts that are probably 25-30% of the cost of the ones you will buy at Best Buy or other retailers and the quality is just as good and the selection is probably 10X better.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD?
I can't see these pictures at work, but what are you guys using to hide your wires?
Something like this?
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss...wire+concealer
I was thining of taking a 2x4 and passing it through a shallow blade on a table saw over and over again to hollow out the middle (or just buying a few pieces of 1x and making 3 sides of a box) and then painting it to match the walls and then running everything through that...but I still have to figure out a way to securely mount it to the wall.
When we mounted my father in law's TV, we ran everything through the wall, which is always an option, but I'm trying to limit the number of holes I put in if possible and also don't feel like relocating the power and cable junction boxes as we did on his project.
I'm really considering buying a new cheap receiver with HDMI in/outputs so that I can run everthing to the receiver and only having one wire run from my accessories to the TV and only the power plug running down.
This caught my eye for the price:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+1...770679&st=sony surround sound&contract_desc=null
But looking at the back, I'd have to find some new connections for the speakers as I am already pre-wired for surround sound. I've never seen connections like that.Comment

I have these around the baseboards to get the speaker wire to the rears. These aren't even noticeable so they work great.
When I convert the garage into a family room, I'll have to redo the drywall in there so I'll make sure I run things properly behind the walls for cables and wires by using PVC between the studs for fishing purposes.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD?
I'm using this for cables from the TV to the receiver + there is some audio cables going through that. This holds up to 9-10 cables in it.

Re: Plasma or LCD?
Yeah, I bought mine from Menard's.t was much cheaper to get the same stuff than even buying it at BBY. It was the same exact brand and supplier. The ones at Menard's also give you extra footage vs. the same exact ones at BBY.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD?
First, we built this house so we pre-wired for 5.1 surround in this room. As CaptainZombie stated, there's a panel in the back for the 5.1 surround. Here's a picture of it:
Second, you can't see it on the back of the entertainment center, but I put the following on the back to hold/conceal all the wires:

They simply use double-sided tape to tape to the back of the entertainment center. They worked even better than I had initially hoped.Last edited by mjb2124; 01-19-2011, 03:17 PM.Comment
