Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
My current TV is 40 inches, looking around for a gaming TV at that size it seems my best bet is the Samsung MU7000. I'm probably going to pick up either that one, or a 49 inch MU8000 assuming the price difference ($200) is worth it and my wall mount can support it. I have no idea what brand or size my mount is, hoping my dad still has the box somewhere.
Just saw that the 49 inch is the only MU8000 that is 60 hz, I'm thinking the price difference probably isn't worth it.Last edited by DieHardYankee26; 11-21-2017, 08:35 AM.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

The MU8000 is going to be much brighter and have better black levels, so it does HDR better.

Guys question what should brightness usually be set on?Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Depends on the television, of course.
The general rule of thumb for a set that is using no measured calibration tools is that you start above default to the point where you'll be looking at elevated black levels. Pop in a movie with black bars, turn off the lights, get close to the screen, and start lowering that brightness in one unit increments.
Keep doing so until both the black bars on top and bottom are no longer appearing to get darker as you continue to decrease. If you continue past that point, you will start to lose shadow detail in your actual picture, and nothing will have improved with the black bars as a result.
The next thing to account for is dithering, which is the flickering of green dots on the black areas of your screen. You can normally only see them up close, but it's possible to see them from far away as well. If you don't have any dithering at this point, don't worry about this and keep the brightness at this setting. If you have a lot of dithering, continue lowering that brightness level until you no longer have any.
This is the ideal brightness setting for your screen. If you had to lower the brightness too much to eliminate the dithering and you lost shadow detail, pick a value in between no dithering and no elevated black levels. Something that pleases you most.
Hope that helps.
EDIT: This video isn't very useful for much, but if you don't know what dithering looks like, this kind of gives an example (and it shows how lowering brightness can eliminate it as well, I guess).

Was at Best Buy last night and was very close to pulling the trigger on the 65 LG B7. OLED is the best you can get. I’m thinking by next year these OLEDs should be at 1000 nits for HDR.

I think my B7 is plenty bright and I am so glad I took the plunge. If you are always waiting to see what is available next year, you miss the enjoyment now.Comment

Has anyone experienced screen burn in? I bought the 55” LG B7A from Best Buy and bought the warranty through BB! I believe the guy said the warranty covered screen burn it? I know there’s installed software that supposed to help to prevent this.
