Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

Okay, so I tried to clean dust off my TV, and then a couple of other smudges (whatever they are), and even when following like six different YouTube videos and articles to a core I still can't get the cleaning quite right. I left some streaks/smears on the set.

I swear, the thing that people always describe to be the easiest is something that I can never do. "Just use a microfiber cloth," or "work it in circular motions." I don't seem to know how to "do this right" without messing it up.

My television hasn't been on in probably like twenty hours, and it is unplugged. I went with a dry microfiber cloth and removed all of that excess dirt/dust. At this point, it actually wasn't bad and I should have stopped. Nope. Went with my cleaning solution (designed for plasma sets, which is free of all the bad chemicals you don't want to use), very lightly dampened my cloth, and went for those little bugger areas. To smooth it out, I proceeded to kind of get those parts taken care of in a horizontal sweeping motion, and boom. Streaks and smears.

Now I don't freakin' know what to do. This is why I always hold off doing this thing, because even when I prepare and do it right it still ****ing gets messed up. I hope I didn't leave any sort of permanent marks on my set that I now can't un-see.

The irony of all this is to get them off I probably have to do the same cleaning process, and I don't know how the **** to do it.

My son was helpful and decided to clean the tv with his ninja turtle wristband. I need to get my microfiber out and get the smears gone lol.

How did you remove them, though? I can't seem to get rid of the streaks.

Thankfully, with the exception of one shot I saw of a green golf course (and I wasn't looking for them), I can't see them during any live action. But they are noticeable with the set off, and of course I dusted it off in the first place to get just an overall better picture so it would be wisest if I could find a remedy for this as well.

Ok I found the Hisense tv most were talking about at Best Buy for $429

Only thing is the video they have playing for it is some generic Best Buy commercial so it doesn’t look great when compared to the LG tv right next to it. That one has a hdr on and is displaying some video really showing off the color and such

Question, with original ps4, should I turn on HDR option or leave off? Also, did you use rtings site to calibrate or somewhere else?

I was about to tell you not to get the Hisense. I have the H8C. It was good for that cheap when it came out in 2016. TCL blew it away though in 2017.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

Purchased an LG OLED55C7D during the Holiday's.
I'm normally a Samsung guy and despite seeing 65" Samsung MU8000 on sale for $300 less I went with the 55" LG purely because it had better ratings for angled viewing - which is necessary considering where we have the TV sitting.

This TV looked gorgeous in the showroom and it looks stunning in our house too.
However, there are a couple of things I dislike about it and I wish I had done a bit more research.
For starters, the LG doesn't have the TMNGO app (Canadian app to watch The Movie Network and HBO Canada programming).
This is kind of big because we use that app on our other Samsung TV's quite often.

But last night, I noticed that the Google Play App sucks.
We rented two movies; The Snowman and The Hitmans Bodyguard.
Both movies kept disconnecting every 15 minutes.
Also, for whatever reason, the picture quality of The Snowman was crap. Like it was in SD.
I even confirmed it was an HD rental via email receipt.
                        The Hitmans Bodyguard looked terrific.
I checked my speed ratings using Netflix's speed test and by opening a browser and going to Speedtest.net.
Both applications showed I was getting over 60Mbps DL and nearly 20Mbps Upload.
So clearly my connection wasn't the issue.

Eventually, the constant disconnects forced us to watch the movie in our basement where our Samsung JS8000 worked flawlessly.
No disconnects and both movies looked terrific in full HD splendor.
The kicker is that our downstairs TV isn't hardwired, so it's wireless connection 'only' gets about 30Mpbs.

Maybe I should delete the app from my LG and try again.

This is the 3rd LG television I've purchased and it's the 3rd that I've had issues with.
We actually returned our 2nd LG with full refund from LG because of how bad the DSE was on the set.
They had a serviceman come out and even he couldn't believe it. He recorded a video, submitted it to HQ and they cut a cheque for full refund.
We took that cash and bought a Samsung instead.

In hindsight, because I don't think our angled viewing is that big of a deal, I should have went with the 65" Samsung. Not only is it a bigger set by 10", but Samsung has yet to let me down.

Buy an Apple TV 4k and you’ll fix this. I’m never a big fan of apps on tvs anyway.

The only thing I’ve ever used on my 65” 4K Samsung or Sony...is distilled water and a microfiber cloth. I would lightly spray water on the cloth with a spray bottle, and gently rub the snugged areas. Then follow that with a dry cloth. Works well on my IMac also.

I never use any screen cleaning product.

The screen cleaning product is mostly just water. Any of the other stuff isn't supposed to scratch the screen or whatever.

Regardless, I have done it with distilled water in the past and had the same issue. I can never seem to get it right is all.
