My 8 year old plasma gave out last night. Sounded like two popped balloons and shut off. I would assume fixing it would be a waste of time. What would be my best tv 55" under $1000. No gaming on this tv, just sports and general tv watching.

Looking at the samsung nu8000, vizio p series, or if there is something better In this price range?

Those are the two best you going to get for under a grand.

        I'd recommend the 900F, $1199.

Yeah, Sony...Well it's a full array, the NU8000 is just edge lit. Handles motion better than the Samsung & Vizio. The Sony also has a much better processor.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

I'm possibly looking to upgrade from a 2014 Vizio P to the Sony 900f.

My Vizio does 4k, but no hdr. I've read mixed impressions on the 900f's hdr and dolby vision performance. Anybody here have any impressions they could share? If the hdr performance isn't that great I'm wondering if the upgrade would be worth it or if I'd be better off waiting until the new lineups start showing up later this year.

How's the hdr/dolby vision for movies? I've read lots of complaints about it being too dark or dim.

It was a tad but there was an update yesterday and the HDR is how it should be

I have the 2018 Vizio P 55, and I love it. I strongly considered the 900f but just couldn't go that high price wise.

I'm sure $1,200 is a great deal for the Sony, but I got the P for $700. I feel like the FALD and the HDR makes for an amazing picture. As far as just for TV watching I've found that sports, especially football look really good once you dial in your settings. And as far as motion, it's a pretty big leap coming from a 60hz to 120hz.

If I could have spent $1,200 I probably would have gotten the Sony, but I couldn't pass up the P for $700. That was basically my limit. So for that price it's a fantastic tv.

Also, give the cool setting a chance. I know most people like warm, but I feel like the cool on this TV gives you more lifelike picture.

I wouldn't buy any LG that wasn't an OLED.
