Also keep in mind you mentioned gaming on it, don't you want to take advantage of 4K 120?

I think you'll be fine with this TV. 120hz, 1500 nits, good gaming features. I've had my Hisense for a couple years now and it's been just fine.

For the money it's a good TV.

I have the 65” of what’s basically that model, but a year older and it has been great.

Great picture for $699 sale price, and I’d bet that newer model will be on sale sometime between now and Black Friday.

Yeah, it's a good TV I think. My buddy has had a mid-range Hisense for about three years now and still works like new.

You run the risk with any TV of having a lemon, or one that craps out after a year, or even sooner. Even the higher end models have this issue sometimes. So I wouldn't worry about it too much if I was him.

There's always the panel lottery, and I don't know if it's changed or not, but the TCL 6 series has some really bad panel issues. I got lucky with both my LG C1 and Hisense. Great panels on both.

I never realized it, but the TV I have now says it's 100hz. I guess that's better than a 60hz one in terms of watching sports, although this one isn't a 4K TV

TCL6 has been one I've thought of too, but in terms of cost, a 55 inch series 6 is the same as a 65 inch series 5. I know the series 6 is better, but whether it's worth sacrificing TV size is the question (the tv I'd be upgrading from is already 55 inches)

Good news is that prices don't seem to be getting worse vs last year. Bad news is that it doesn't appear to have dropped much either.

The only thing I've really decided is that I'm really only looking at the TCL 5 Series. 6 series ends up being about 40% more than the 5 series.

Hopefully we see prices drop closer to black Friday.

Only thing I'm comparing now is the 2020 and 2021 models.

On rtings, both have about the same ratings (7.7 for mixed usage), and both seem comparable in all areas. The things which stood out is that the 2021 model has slightly better numbers for watching sports, but the big difference I saw is that 2020 has drastically better calibration numbers.

The 2021 one oddly enough seems to have gone on sale more often than 2020 (based on camelcamelcamel).

Assuming both wind up being similar prices (or 2021 one is slightly cheaper), which would be better option?
Prices hit rock bottom earlier in the summer. Or places like Costco had $150+ gift cards as incentives to really move old stock.

I had a U8G for a hot minute and returned it. The motion on is was unwatchable. Terrible ghosting or whatever you want to call it. I guess I lost the lottery panel which is something you are playing with Hisense. Otherwise the picture can be amazing. If you are gonna go budget I'd stick with TCL.

I noticed over the years they are bias towards certain brands and technologies. Like one TV could be brighter and have more features across the board, but yet get a way lower score then a brand and a technology that they like. Also seen 2 TVs get the same level of brightness, but one would be rated way lower then the other and the only difference be the brand. Once I started noticing that pattern of theirs 2 years ago, I don't even take them serious anymore.
Rtings does love their dark image. I only use their settings to make sure I get off any useless image processing. Brightness and features alone aren't going to move the overall ratings that much. The C1 is never going to get brighter than almost any LED.

Easiest solution is probably TCL Series 6 55 inch, but it'll be a matter of if it's worth sacrificing size for quality (there's a joke to be made here).

I'd imagine LG or a brand like that wouldn't be worth getting the TV if it's under $1000? They don't have as good rating on rtings, but not sure how much weight that site should carry based on what people have said.

Both brands can have issues but TCL has most of their QC issues fixed years ago. Hisense is still to new and if you look at any reviews, you see all the issues. Don't just look at TVs look at the other appliances they make, there are major issues with reliability. They are getting better but just not there yet.

Like SuperBowlNachos said and personal experience, you are putting it at risk of the one you get. I would buy in store and get a warranty that is supported by some other company than Hisense. They sent someone out 3 times and replaced everything but the panel and speakers on it and it still had issues. Normally it would have been refunded or replaced but since it was in the 1st year, had to deal with Hisense and they refused to do anything until a complaint with BBB and email to US CEO was sent. Finally got refunded but you need to go into it expecting it to fail.

TCL had an issue on one HDMI port, they confirmed it was bad and sent a check. They know these TVs aren't worth repairing as generally the repair cost too much and causing further issues like Hisense did when the 1st repair broke other things.

Between the TCL 5 and 6 series, it's worth the size sacrifice in my opinion. THe 5 series basically gives you nothing but a bland 4K TV with bad HDR and no good gaming features. I believe all the 5 series have is 60hz as well.

I would much rather have the smaller TV so I had 120hz, and good HDR, with Dolby Vision. However, if gaming is important to you and you have a next-gen system, you won't be getting any advanced gaming features. I also suspect your current TV does not have a native 100hz refresh rate. It's probably actually 50hz, which they market as 100hz since they have software that mimics it, but isn't good at it. I know outside of America, a lot of TV's are 50hz.

If you feel more comfortable with TCL over Hisense, then go with that. You can't go wrong with either imo, but others seem to not like Hisense, which personal experience makes it a legit thing. I will never buy a Vizio again due to having to go through 4 TVs before I got them to refund me.

You’re also gaining more dimming zones and mini led.

                            Spec wise it’s not bad. Mini-LED, Full-Array, native 120.

effective means nothing. If you hook up a Xbox/PS5, you're only gonna get 4K 60.
