Anyone been to HHGregg? Around where I am, they are 10x worse than Best Buy. I can go into Best Buy and browse things without feeling like I'm being stalked (and I order most things through Amazon as well...love Amazon). At HHGregg, the first sales person to greet you will follow you around the store until you leave. It's creepy.

Just wondering how the brick and mortar stores compete in this area, or are they not competing really?

Oh yeah, and maybe this is a dumb question but here goes..will I need a "special" HDMI cable to support 3D? I ask because my initial instinct was that was crazy, any HDMI cable would work just fine, but reading reviews of these 3D TVs I've seen some people allude to some HDMI cable issues regarding the 3D working or not working??
Only thing I can think of, is some people like walking into a store and coming out with something THAT DAY. Some are also fearful of paying online and having something the size of a HDTV shipped.

There is a reason why BB is closing a bunch of stores and NOW focusing on customer service. You only have to get burned 1 time by paying double-triple for something you could have picked up online.

In terms of HDMI cables for 3D, just make sure it says it supports 3D and audio return channel.
Still should not run you more than $10. Friends don't let friends buy monster cables.

As long as it is a high speed HDMI cable it will support 3D.

That's not an isolated incident either. There are also investigative reports in California, Texas, Florida, New York and Ohio of them doing the same exact thing. Plus, they pressure you into buying $100+ HDMI cables.

Seriously, **** Best Buy (or Worst Lie as I call them) and I hope they go out of business.

I've never used Geek Squad because I'm pretty knowledgeable about computers and just in general don't go to those places but I have considered it sometimes when I just don't feel like working on something. Thank you for re-igniting my passion for not trusting places like this and in this case, specifically Best Buy.

Either they are dishonest or incompetent...either way is pretty damned disgusting IMO

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

They finally showed up (they were supposed to show up between 10-12 yesterday, then 10-12 today, he got here at 2). I thought they were supposed to set it up and make sure it worked before they left but after helping him take the screen out of the box and seeing their were no cracks or visible damage, he was out. To his credit though, he did apologize and place the blame on someone else for their lateness.

Just finished setting up and watched about 5 minutes of Watchmen. Changed initial setting from energy saving mode to standard and it looks pretty good. I am blown away by the size.

Now what do I have to do? I know there's like a 100 hour burn in process or something right? Any help with settings, do i need a disc or what? I'm not going to get a professional calibration but I'll take whatever help I can get to get it looking as good as I can.

                Boom!

This thread is for all discussion related to burn in, IR, and break in questions/concerns/info on flat panel TVs. Please post all discussions on this topic in this thread. With today's new technologies (2007 and beyond) burn in is nearly non-existence if users use common sense. While still...

First go into your picture settings and look for contrast. Make sure it's somewhere in the 50-55 range. If you're coming from a LCD, it's going to be noticeably darker than you're used to. You can up that to the 80s-90s AFTER the first 100 hours or so.

I recommend staying away from the vertical black bars early on. Make sure your content fills the entire screen... if it's SD--then change the ratio to fill the screen. Oh yeah, don't fall asleep with the static image of a DVD or blu ray menu screen.

You can speed up this 100 hr. break-in period by running slides. Of course, some will say do what you want from day 1. I tend to stay on the cautious side.

You may see some image retention, but that's normal with a new plasma and is temporary. Watch some more tv and it'll go away.

                  Enjoy.

I downloaded and burned the break-in dvd from 55's link. Is that what you mean by slides? I put it in and it just plays a blank screen of varying colors. Am I to leave it on like overnight and when I'm gone or what?

I've got contrast at 55 and brightness at 50. The default contrast was at like 94. It's darker than my old lcd for sure.

You should run the slides for 75-100 hours. This will help the propshers to age evenly.

If you chose to watch any content, make sure it's fullscreen

Glad everything is working out. I made the leap of faith with LG a few years ago. Went to Sears fully intent on coming out with a Panny plasma, but the LG sitting right next to it was $250 cheaper and looked just as good running the same blu ray (Pixar's Cars 1). Haven't regretted the decision.

Keep in mind over there at AVS you have a lot of users that nit-pick everything about the tv and actively LOOK for things to complain about. No tv will be perfect.

A suggestion from someone who frequents AV Forums a lot. Don't get caught-up in the "Owner's Thread" over @ AVS. Enjoy your set, because if you continue to follow that thread, people will begin to complain about stuff IE: Defects in the TV. In turn you will begin doing the same & it's gonna become obsessive.
