Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
What's your budget?
Now the 720p or 1080p question. Will this be doubling as a computer monitor? If so, I'd say go with 1080p for reading computer text.
All the major brands have 720p offerings in the size you need for $220-300. 1080p sets generally start in the low $300s + I say this using amazon.com as a baseline. You might be able to find a deal at your local Best Buy, Walmart, Target, etc.
Really just comes down to who's picture quality or brand you like best and what inputs you need.
If you're one a limited budget this is a slightly smaller 24" 1080p LED backlit model. Also has a 2 yr warranty for $137 shipped. Not going to beat a Sony, Sammy or LG in picture quality but you'll be saving $150-200.

Just need a secondary TV for the bedroom. Something to watch SNF or MNF on before I go to bed.
My main TV is an 42-inch LG 1080p and I love it. So I'm leaning toward a 26-inch LG 720p on Amazon.Comment

Solid choice at $250.
Amazon also has a $230 Vizio 26" Razor. I got it a year ago, but returned it after a few days. It just "felt" small...kinda hard to explain.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Well, once you've had a display that big in your living room for over a year you just get used to it.
I have been moving my couch about 3" closer to the screen about once a month for the last six!Comment

I can see where people wouldn't like that size for normal TV viewing, but I could go to 80" for movies and it doesn't seem like size would be an issue.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I have a 59" screen and I sit no more than 8' away. I could have easily upgraded to 64"/65" if my setup was appropriate for it, especially for movies.

3D would definitely be better with a bigger screen, in my opinion.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Question still remains, is it using active or passive 3D tech? I want to say that all Sammy's use active 3D, but wasn't sure.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Active tech uses more expensive glasses, but it gives you 1080p in both eyes. Most people say it's a little darker as well.
Passive tech uses the cheap glasses, like you get at the movie theater. Only gives you half of the 1080p resolution in both eyes. It's brighter and less flicker.
I wear prescription glasses, so I'd probably go with a passive 3D set if I was in the market. The glasses are much lighter to wear unless active 3D glasses have gotten much better.Last edited by GAMEC0CK2002; 08-05-2012, 04:46 PM.Comment

Some reviewers on Amazon have said they can use these with their glasses without a problem. I want to get an ISF calibrator in my house to get the 3D to look better, though. My glasses now make everything a little too dark, and a little too green.
I have a better experience in theaters overall, but most of it has to do with the calibration and television size. The fact that you get better quality with active is good enough for me to be won over.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
