I just ordered my home theater room for my house as well this morning, the main parts are the 65" Sony 4k along with MartinLogan Motion 40 floorstandings, along with the other speakers and extra stuff. Whole thing should be in next week and I'm pretty excited to finally get this thing in my house. For how much I paid for the whole thing, I couldn't pass it up.
Going 4K before they drop the new HDMI specs ? Going to assume you're also getting the Sony media server right?

Yeah, 4k media server is a sure thing, and after speaking personally with Sony representatives, HDMI 2.0 is going to happen on this TV, just like on the Samsungs.

If you guys near bigger cities haven't stopped in any place to see the new curved OLED tv's, you should take a peak. We did our training on them a little bit ago and it's amazing what they did with them. They are kind of small, but you can still see the big difference in screen balance, even on a 55" panel.

Ok I have a 60 inch Panasonic st60 which I love, colors just spot on but wanted a LED for gaming, it's just less hassle and even though burn in is not an issue, do get image retention time to time. So CNET says the Sony Kdl 900 has best picture and least lag input but only comes 55 inches, Samsung had second best but comes bigger sizes...stuck. Any ideas ?

Here's my general opinion on it:

If we're talking about a Blu-ray, I'm trying to get as close to the director's intent as possible, and I want to let the uncompressed/minimally compressed disc speak for itself. I will only turn on processing that enhance the picture without adding any unwanted artifacts or being detrimental to the picture in any way. I'm also looking for little inconsistencies. On a television, these options are few and far between, or nonexistent.

Dynamic contrast crushes blacks, above all else. Dynamic contrast screws with the intended colors in the film. There's just not much else to say about those two things. Options such as Edge-Enhancement, DNIe, MPEG Noise Reduction, etc. are all going to mess with your picture. They may look cleaner, but that really just depends on what your original settings were like. One thing for sure... they are looking less like the film originally did and beautifully can.

The only processor I'll ever use is the DarbeeVision Darblet, because it does not change a single thing that any calibration meter can read, and when tweaked right can bring out incredulous, unknown detail in your picture without adding any artifacts. Other than that, I turn everything else OFF.

Setting things up for video games or cable will be a bit different. Games have no requisite for how it "should look" based on what we know of before we get it in our hands, and TV is so compressed already that many of the plaguing issues will be there whether or not we turn on extra processes. So go hog-wild with the features here, as long as it starts to look more pleasing to you.

The only problem with doing this for gaming is that turning on processes causes more input lag, so it's one of those sacrifices you'll have to make. If you don't watch Blu-rays at all, you could just set your PS3 range to Full and enjoy the "deep color" look (although you'll lose shadow detail all around), buy a Darblet and enjoy! I think you'll be plenty satisfied that way.

From a video purist's perspective though, the less you add the more you'll do to your picture, thus they probably should be left off to bring out the most you possibly can (with the proper calibration, that is).
Listen to this man. He is not wrong by any means.

In your case, in comes back to the ancient question....Does size really matter? Is 55" large enough? If so, get the Sony and call it a day.

Awesome TV. It has the same TRILUMINOS technology that the 4k Sony's have. As far as LED TV's go, Sony has produced some of the best gaming TV's this year. Sony used the same screen on the KDL900 that Samsung uses on their 8000 series, minus the micro dimming which is pointless for gaming because it results in lag input and poor response times. The KDL900 is possibly the best looking LED out of the box I have ever seen, very close to being a calibrated TV out of the box.

Simple but sort of broad question...

What's the "best" TV I can get for under $500. I'm looking at 40-47 inches since our living room is pretty narrow and the couch is probably less than 10 feet from the screen. Right now I'm taking the easy way out and leaning towards this, the best seller on amazon. Plus I've had a 32" Samsung for 4ish years and it's been great.

                  http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN40EH...zg_bs_172659_1

No real preference on LCD/Plasma etc. just looking for the best bang for the buck and wondering if you guys have any recommendations.

What's the lighting condition of the room? Lot of windows?

If going LED/LCD you probably want 120Hz

It's a pretty low light room, windows off to the side but no direct sunlight near the TV. I'd be open to 120 Hz if I can find one for the right price. I've noticed those are obviously a little more expensive and newer models and I'd really like to keep it under $500.

Awesome thanks guys, guess I'll go with the Vizio. It'll still be a week or two till I make a purchase so maybe I'll get lucky and it'll drop 20 or 40 bucks for a couple of days.

The M series has a much nicer design for the same price BUT it's smaller (40 inches) and no 3D.
