Let me tack onto this: I've had my PN59D7000 for 23 months, and there were hints of IR early on (the first several months). Earlier today I decided to leave ESPN on for ten hours straight. Went to color slides, and if I saw something it's because I was looking for it... but I feel like it was more like making shapes out of clouds. I don't think anything was really there. Back then, there used to be.

My new PN60F8500 is only about 350 hours in, and gets IR pretty quickly. It goes away super quickly though, but I'm still going to take great precaution, just as I did for my D7000. I mean, why not? I own a plasma that does have burn-in (though it's a 2005 Panny model), so there's no reason for me not to just baby it for the hell of it. It's a beautiful set and deserves to remain beautiful; aging it a bit sometimes is actually pretty good for it.

For the record, I'm on AVS every day and I see people still talking about stubborn IR to this day. To say it's nonexistent is probably not wise for somebody who's about to dip into plasma. I'm not saying they shouldn't get one (they definitely should), but it's not good for us to be liable just because they trusted our word and it didn't help. It's good to hear stories of good and bad.

I don't really have a camera (only a pocket video camera), so I found a digital camera we got like ten years ago and took a pic of my calibrated F8500 with it, featuring Super 8.

Looks good blzr. The only thing I see wrong is the camera exposure is crushing your blacks

Oh, definitely. Let me get a better camera and I'll show you exactly what the picture reveals. This shot is not only too warm, but way too soft (Batman Begins / DVD soft lol) and is definitely crushing blacks.

Like I said, ten year old digital camera. I didn't tweak the settings on it. I'll try it again with a different camera.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

I'm having a really hard time nailing down a purchase for a TV that is LED, 39 or 40 inches and not a Smart TV. Especially with 60hz vs 120hz, I am looking at these televisions and seeing very little difference except in some cases of blur during rapid movement. But, even with some high end TVs like Samsung and Sony, I'm seeing very jittery movement in scrolling.

Currently I'm looking at a Toshiba 39" 120hz LED that I feel justified in buying but I'm concerned because it looks just about the same as a 40" Samsung 60hz LED.

Is it because of the size that I'm having a hard time differentiating these TVs or am I looking at the wrong thing?
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

If you want a brighter picture then go for a 3LCD projector like this Epson ($675 shipped)

              http://www.amazon.com/Epson-V11H4750...=operasport-20

In the $400-500 range you can get a "business/presentation" PJ that has 1 HDMI that could function in a home theater. Then you would need an HDMI switcher if you have more than 1 HDMI source.

Getting ready to pull the trigger on that one. Other than the lens cap issue, which won't be a problem for me, since it'll be stationairy, what are your thoughts?

For a 1080P, looks like a pretty good deal. We close on our house 9/13, and looking to have this ready to roll for the weekend football games!

Solid choice. You may want to pick up a relatively cheap HDMI switcher, since that PJ only has 1 HDMI input.

                1080p under $700 is a good deal.

Some interesting news that I'm not sure was posted here. Pioneer recently claimed their "Elite" brand back for TV's. Sharp had it for LCD and Panasonic had it for Plasma, even though they never used the brand name. If the Kuro comes back I think the plasma community over at AVS would lose it.

Why not just do a low budget AVR, like a Sony or try get your hands on a used one, buy a couple cheaper bookshelf speakers and you're set. Not sure if you have sound, so if you do that's not an option.

Also, I was able to meet the Samsung reps at a convention the other week and got to see their 4k and OLED. The OLED is pretty awesome. Their 4k I'm not a huge fan of, but their OLED is something special.

True. He will need something for audio b/c projector speakers are just like tv speakers (they usually stink) Don't know what his budget is for sound or if he already has a surround sound setup for this.

Looking at $250-300 for a budget friendly AVR and pair of bookshelf speakers. (A sub will be needed though)

Or a HTIB that has a dedicated AVR and doesn't use proprietary wires so he can upgrade down the road.

Ugh, you just said HTIB...that made my body cringe...I wouldn't do a HTIB for a projector system...too many things can go wrong and then your replacing EVERYTHING.

I said HTIB with a dedicated receiver and non-proprietary wires. Those do exist.

Not one of those blu ray or DVD players that pretend to be AVRs.

What's the best for the money HTIB? Guys, I'm not looking to have an amazing super ultra setup, just something that I can go down to the mancave, sit back in the recliner, and watch my football. Doesn't have to be anything crazy. I'm just going the projector route, as I finally have room, I always wanted one, and I'm treating myself to something finally

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

What's the budget? You are wanting the full 5.1 surround sound right?

There are 5.1 systems from Onkyo, Yamaha, and Denon....
