Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

Well after 5 years my TOSHIBA LED died. Ended up getting 2 TV's as the bedroom TV is getting real bad clouding.

Got another 55" LED for the Living Room (Samsung) and got a 51" Plasma for the bedroom also Samsung. 2 BR Players (1 3D Player)

All for $1,250 out the door

Thank you to Wendy & Robert @ Value Electronics once again for an awesome customer service experience

I've decided to pull the trigger on the XBR-65X950B. It is a full array 4k LED and Sonys flagship TV this year. I should have it the first week of June.

Thought you already had a Sony 4K set?

Decided to upgrade. I've been waiting for a full array set from Sony since their last one. My last tv had some very minor horizontal banding so I manufacture returned it and have store credit.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

I'm looking for a 55-60 inch TV around $1000. I originally got started when I walked into Best Buy and saw their Sharp 60" for $600 but that deal is no longer going on.

Now after looking, I'm thinking this TV might be the best option?

What are your thoughts? I do gaming (obviously), I have an Xbox One so a Smart TV is not needed although at that price range, they all probably have it. 3D is not needed, I just want an LED, 1080p, 120HZ TV.

And one really big plus that I'm looking for is a small bezel around the screen. The smaller, the better for me.

Getting pretty solid reviews. The gaming lag is still something not really clear about yet.

I had the 60" for a couple of days, but took it back to due a weird strobing effect when the ACTIVE LED was set to ON. The whole purpose of getting this TV was to get the Local Dimming Feature which is Active LED. Without it enabled you basically lose that, which causes the Black Levels to not be as dark as they should.

EDIT: Nevermind. Didn't see that you're looking at LEDs only , but the price is right on the 60" Sammy plasma.

I sit here and stare at the screen in awe how amazing it looks. I took a couple pictures with my I phone directly off the screen just to try and show how beautiful the picture is. Granted the iphone does not have the best dpi so its not nearly as good as it is in person, but it will give you a general idea.

Don't maybe go out and buy one, if you have a gaming station like I do. RUN OUT AND BUY ONE!!!!!!

Black levels beat plasma? Not on any LED or LCD monitor regardless if its IPS.

Do you run your console on Full RGB or Limited. Those screens seem there is major black crush

It is just from the not so great camera on the iphone. I tried both Limited and RGB, one I was getting crush and the other I was not, I will have to look at which setting was the right one. I ran the AVS HD 709 on the monitor to get black levels and white level gradients set correctly.

Phobia you should be running RGB Full since your using a PC monitor when you start calibrating.

This gives you Full Range 0-255

Just spoke with a buddy that works at a MHT Design Center and he said the XBR-XXX950B competes with the ZT60 in terms of black levels and color saturation. The TV is full array so that would explain it. I'll post some pictures when mine arrives!

I got a new cable box recently from my service provider. Was wondering should it be set to 720p or 1080i. My tv is a LG 1080p lcd. Thanks.
