Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Could always just get a old CRT on the cheap or run an emulator on laptop connected to the tv. Like already mentioned some AVRs still have analog to digital converters.
Either way it going to look pixelated. I ran Mario 64 on my 40 inch LED and it didn't look good.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I have heard people say that old systems games don't look good on even normal HDTV but I have never had that problem and I don't think that is true. I have a 720p HDTV from 2007 and old games look just fine and don't look pixelated at all.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I am also waiting for an OLED when the prices drop. The 4K HDTVs look great but the OLEDs blow away everything I've seen and it's not even close.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Not being able to play old systems and games is a big issue to me. I still play my gamecube, wii, SNES some times and I don't trade games or systems in like some people do. Also I am still trying to move out on my own so that is also kind of a issue. With that said I think I may have found something to fix not being able to play old systems with a tv that only has HDMI inputs.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I don't know about not even close. You gotta see some of these new 4K HDR tvs. They look really good. The OLED have better blacks, but don't get as bright which is very important for HDR content. Some of them are very good and produce great picture quality. It's noticeable, but I wouldn't say night and day.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
In the end though, an LED is still an LED, and every issue that comes with them will always remain. I hate LED technology as a movie buff.
I just wish plasma could have stayed around in the UHD era.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
That would be annoying though. Those 2 things I was talking about on amazon a few days back I ended up getting just in case I get that 4k TV I was talking about that only has a HDMI input. Those 2 things I tried on my current old HDTV and they work. So that takes care of that. With those 2 devices off amazon I can play gamecube, SNES and wii with HDMI and that is what I needed.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Both technologies have their pros and cons. I gamed on a Panasonic plasma for years and loved it. I now have an LED and I'll tell you that the tech has gotten a lot better. Plasmas will never look as sharp as and LED. And I used to think only plasmas had inky blacks but some of these new tvs have darker blacks than plasmas did especially if you get a VA panel. Plasmas have better viewing angles, but also consume 3-4 times the amount of electricity compared to LED. I've been highly impressed with my tv especially after having some good calibration settings. When OLED comes down in price to something reasonable and other brands besides LG start making them then I'll make the jump.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
You're leaving out the big one for me: motion. Screen uniformity et. al are also included.
LED definitely has improved on their blacks, but I cannot deal with the kind of motion that LED has. I mean I literally cannot. There's something about it that I despise.
Apparently OLED has its own motion issues as well though. That's why I'm sticking with plasma for quite a while.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
