Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Also tends to be: more prone to image retention (same idea as burn-in, but without the permanence factor), bigger sized screens only, less energy efficient, "bulkier," a more dated/less sexy technology, no matte screens = reflective, slow to achieve "fast refresh rate" technologies (though they did not need it at all), buzzy, non-curving, and can have its emissive qualities in OLED & film-like benefits in projectors.
And more expensive for R&D purposes for companies. Samsung and Panasonic were willing to go 4K with plasma screens, but it would not have been cost-effective to do so.
I'd say your first two were the biggest things, though. You tell somebody that you have a plasma, and they immediately think "burn-in." Also when placed right next to an LED screen that is the same size, people will just be more drawn to the brighter, thinner, and likely cheaper one.
There's a difference between refresh rate and input lag, though.
There's also a difference between refresh rate and framerate.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Well I'll say this. I had a top of the line 5 year old Panasonic plasma and I loved it. Gaming was great on it too because input lag wasn't high but decent. The black levels were great too, but after trying out some of he new 4k HDR LCD screens there's no way in hell I'm going back. Tried a few tvs and the Samsung Ks8000 blows the plasma out the water in my opinion. Once you start watching content on the ks8000 I couldn't go back to my loved Panasonic plasma. My next step will be be OLED, but I'll wait until another company that's not LG makes it and the input lag getting lower before I buy one. The biggest thing I miss from plasmas are the viewing angles.

I have a 2 week old $500 55" Hisense 4k hdr set, and the ratings for gaming and hdr gaming I read aren't that far off your KS model, so go figure.
And like someone mentioned, I still have my 7 head old LG plasma great.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
After settling on the KS8500 and almost walking out of the store with it, I decided to take one last peek at the LG OLEDs (the B series specifically) and decided to hold off for now. I have a 4K tv from last year that's plenty good for now and I'm willing to spend the money on a tv in the future but I want it to be a 4K OLED with low input lag, great HDR anddddd Dolby Vision support. I hope next year's LG's (or whoever else decides to go OLED) will be more fully featured.
But walking by them today, I couldn't fully commit to the Sammy without feeling a tinge of buyer's remorse. Who knows, maybe Samsung's QLED will be the way to go in the long run.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Except for Samsung, I'd wait anyway. Some TV's might need hardware changes to be compatible with the HDMI 2.1 spec (integrating dynamic metadata), but Sammy's line this year has their hardware future-proofed for that, and at most they will just need a firmware upgrade.
Time will tell whether this is all LG, Vizio, etc. will need for their sets, but their 2017 sets should definitely be fully primed with it by the time 2.1 comes out.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

My man, you know I have much respect for you here on OS but all your assessments aren't always correct man, half that crap the companies force feed can't even been noticed like that my friend. If you wanna believe a lot of the hype. Just like you stated to each his own, seems like a lot of Justifying your purchases lately.

Anyone familiar with this TV? It's a doorbuster today at Best Buy and is still available at mine. Thinking about getting it for my GF to replace the 42" Panasonic Plasma 720P set I've been letting her borrow. Don't care about 4K at this price range, so 1080P is just fine. Seems like a good price for a basic TV.Comment

I wouldn't worry too much about Dolby vision since HDR10 is the standard. Both consoles only support HDR10 and all 4K blu rays that have HDR must support HDR10 too. I'm intrigued with samsung's QLED tech since they're saying it'll be better than OLED.

Dude what are you talking about....What I am telling you has zero to do with the ratings on your tv or mine and has zero to do with gimmicks....You trying to justify that a budget tv is as good as a high end one...Why would you want to do that when the argument ends there.... Do you want to justify your purchase?
Your tv is a budget model and what it offers is good for the price but you cannot sit there and think that those who spent a lot more were duped by gimmicks and things thrown down our throats....
Here is the line about motion blur on your Hisense
The motion handling of the H8C is below average. It has a good response time with little motion blur but those sensitive to judder will notice it when watching movies from any source. The TV has a 60Hz panel, and is able to interpolate content at 30fps for those that like the soap opera effect
Guess what would be the grade on that tv if it had 120hz?
And the most important aspect is the input lag which is very high
When tested with a 4k resolution, the input lag was not stable and was cycling from 51.0ms to 67.3ms
In game mode!!!
So you got a 4k tv that has better input lag when using 1080p console output
But those who bought the KS8000 or KS8500 or Sony XD are just trying to justify the money spent right? We should have just gone your route and told Samsung and Sony to take their expensive brands and shove them because a budget 4K is just as good....Comment

Well next years OLED might improve input lag and maybe fix the ABL issues and raise the brightness issue but it will cost a ton more then Samsung
And when Samsung releases their new tech that will cost a ton as well so it will be a long time before those tvs come down to a price close to what the samsungs little old led areComment
