Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Don't ask how/why, but apparently I never had a surge protector on my TV(which I'm starting to think was the reason it broke).
I don't wanna spend like $100 to get something good, but for anyone who has one(or at least knows a thing or two about these things), how big of a protector will I need to get for a TV? To me, all surge protectors seem the same minus the amount joules they got. Some can be a few hundred, some can be a few thousand. Obviously the more joules the better, but I want to see just how many joules I actually need in the protector for a TV.
Depends how much you paid for it. The TV itself got 4/5 stars for the most part which is obviously good. So nothing wrong with the TV itself. I'm sure there's better ones, but all depends on how much you paid for that vs how much it cost for others of the same size and if you feel the cost of that TV was worth.Comment

^ Most people just say get the $10 surge protector and you're good. For the most part that's true, unless you need it to condition a certain amount of power (as you said) and unless you need to regulate the amount of voltage you get in your electricity. Also, some of the more expensive ones can cover you for up to millions of dollars in damaged devices should there be a power surge.
Otherwise, the basic ones are just fine.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Over 4000 joules and 12 outlets. Just $10 more than basic ones, I'll probably just go for this. Tv, cable box, surround sound unit are really only things plugged in it. One I got on a diff tv is just over 2000joules and that never gave any issues.
Probably gonna take extra precautions and spend around $100 as well for one on main fuse box. Tv's get double protection and everything else like fridge, microwave and so on gets single protection.Last edited by Majingir; 09-10-2017, 01:10 PM.Comment

NFL game pass and NHL game pass let you watch past games. NOTE: NFL game pass does not allow you to watch live games in the US. You can only watch replays. NHL lets you watch live out of market games.Comment

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I own a few Vizios and am for the most part happy with them. None are 4k however. My problem is I am watching one TV from a distance of 15' the other close to 20'. How big would I have to go to see the benefit of a 4k TV to go along with a PS4 Pro? What brand would you go with? Not into spending insane money for one of the higher priced brands.
I have two 55" and I sit about 6 to 8 feet away. If your going to game a lot the TCL 55" 605/607 is a great set , this is the one I have. In game mode with HDR and 4K you get about 15ms response time or lower. For the price this set is amazing, and local dimming became available in game mode with an update back in July.N.Y Mets

Set it to movie or cinema. Vivid will decrease the life of the TV.

Agreed, I have both my sets one movie. And I was completely against movie mode for gaming and watching TV, but it grew on me and I couldn't use any other mode, it's makes my picture look realer then all other settings.

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
Vivid pretty much maxes out all settings on the picture and uses the Cool temperature (but in terms of luminescence, blue's temperature is actually hotter than red's). In a retail store this can really pop out, but at home it just looks artificial, is rather blinding in my opinion, and will destroy the life of your TV over the long run.
Three or so months of owning a TV sounds a little off, though. As we speak, my living room Samsung plasma screen that I got in July 2012 has 9,434 hours on it (which equates to over 13 consecutive months without turning it off) and has been calibrated for all but the first 150 hours I owned it (and at that time, it was on Movie mode). Despite the picture setting differences, this just seems really strange that your set died.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
