Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

What size of a box is a 65" TV generally (for width)?

I'm wondering if the Samsung KS8000 65" or Vizio p65-c1 will fit in my Ford Escape or if i will have to get it delivered...

The opening width wise is 43"

I am not sure but I know that best buy says that you should definitely stand the box up and don't lay it down. If that helps.

Here's a couple of reasons why:

          1. My man cave is in a pitch black room. Sure my wife opens the curtains sometimes and allows light in (which I hate) but 99% of the time I'm in I'm cloaked in darkness.

And one thing I hate about my TVs now, is they have that damned light around the edges and the screen is never black unless its off. Even my LG which is only 2 years old and a really top of the line model has that grey screen when it should be black.

So #1 is I want black, black, black levels that are deep (and no I cannot afford to go to an OLED, that's too much)

          2. Dolby Vision which is something the Vizio has and the Samsungs do not. I know this isn't probably a huge deal but I really would like to have it just in case. I've read about it and it seems like something if you could have you'd want to, but not a huge deal breaker in and of itself.

So what do you guys think about me going with the Vizio P65-C1 over the Samsung KS8000? Is this a last minute audible that I might regret?

I'll be honest, one reason that I'm not really committed to it is just the name of Vizio, it conjures up a "value set" and I'm spending $2000 here, and wondering if I should just go with Samsung which is what I know.

But I wonder how much of that is me thinking what others might think if I tell them I got a Vizio more than what I truly care about it myself.

          Thoughts?

Now that I am about to have the money I'm getting really nervous to make a real decision, LOL...

Black levels on the ks8000 are great. Go one page back. I do a little comparison of both since I owned both.

Hmm interesting, well I'm interested in the vizio but my heart still belongs to the Samsung ks8500 curved

Six words ODogg....."You will NOT regret this purchase"....Give the P65-C1 a try....BUT make sure you get a Costco membership and get it there. It is low risk and high reward in that you get to try it out and easily return if it doesn't fit your standards.

I was in the EXACT same boat as you....Paying this much cash for a....Vizio!?!?! But, here is the thing...The parts that are in this unit are from the reference series line which is like 3k or so more expensive (don't quote me, but in one of the videos I saw on Youtube, this was mentioned)....BLACK levels are RIDICULOUS! And since your in a light controlled man cave...my friend....you will see the beauty of blacks right in front of your eyes. Even my wife who is FAR from a videophile could not believe the PQ of the OLED, 4K demos we were watching that she had seen on the LG OLEDs in Best Buy. And also....NO MOTION JUDDER (atleast to my un-professional eyes. LOL!)....It is crazy how smooth it is when the camera pans! Buttery smooth! And let me just say....I prefer how this unit isn't paper thin in all honesty and maybe that is because I experienced the bezel issue and prefer having a unit that is somewhat substantial. This unit is built rock solid. I really like the gunmetal finish (personal preference). I have yet to do gaming on my unit....but gonna hit up Costco ASAP next week to get my XBox One S. Its a testament to a tv that it so freakin' awesome (to my eyes) that I want to make additional investments that I really don't need to do just to maximize full potential of the system.

Oh yeah...the tablet...LOVE IT thus far! Built solid, quick and responsive. Casting Youtube videos (which is a majority of my usage) has not run into issues. I really like the wireless charger which looks high end! I don't know man....the whole package of the tablet with the wireless charger makes it feel truly like a 'premium' type product....But I'm easy to please...sort of.

Like I said...if I see in the next 90 days it is not living up to my needs or standards, I will take it back. But thus far, after 2 days....I'm one satisfied, VIZIO customer....And honestly thinking of talking my parents into even investing in the 75 inch version. But that is a whole other research adventure to embark upon.

EDIT: I forgot to mention...and haven't even tried out....the fact that this set has DOLBY VISION and HDR10...Your future proofed! Really lookin' forward to seeing Marco Polo and all the 4K Netflix content...Thinkin' about tryin' out Vudu as well....Like I said earlier...this tv is forcing my hand to make additional investments! But thats what our tax refund is for, right?

Thanks for the heads up! Might I ask how much the Costco set cost you? This set is $1899 at best buy right now

Holy cow, I'm going to have to get out to Costco and check this out, I figured it'd be a might but cheaper, like $1749 or something, that's a really great deal.

Is that a sale this week or would it be that next week too most likely?

That price will last till 2/28/17.....

I forgot to take note regarding your 'audible' comment from a past post re: KS8000....Yeah man....I definitely understand what you mean....B/c of my back and forth and just gettin' sick of researching tv's, I was almost gonna take the leap on the LG OLEDs....But then all of a sudden, when I got the 'confidence' to finally go to Best Buy....the price hike occurred. So that was my 'sign' (from God) LOL! to take a leap with Vizio. Whats awesome is that the P-Series (from what I heard) was a Best Buy exclusive. But now they made their way into Costco and with that return period, it was a no-brainer for me....

By the way, I'm watching 4K movie trailers on Youtube, and b/c of that....this post has taken me 30 minutes to write b/c I can't focus on typing. LOL!

But in all honesty man....whichever you go with....Samsung or Vizio....your gonna get some great performance!

Hey thanks man! Did you buy yours at the store?

I have a Ford Escape and was wondering if I could just go get one when I get paid. I don't want to wait 7 to 10 days per Costcos site tbh

I didn't pony up for the Vizio P-series...but I do have the M-series and I can cosign the black levels being pretty outrageous on this Vizio. It's not an edge-lit design (look at that, I sound like I learned something lol) and this type of thing would fit well into a dark room. I am really liking everything about my new set so far.

-Deals well with glare. I had the blinds open earlier today and the sun was pouring in directly at the face of the TV, but the picture was surprisingly resilient to it. The picture quality was still very good.

-5 HDMI outlets could come in handy if you have lots of things to connect.

-It looks and feels sturdy. It's nearly 3 inches thick and 55-65 odd lbs and the legs do a good job at keeping the TV completely motionless. The legs were about the easiest thing I've ever assembled--it was smooth.

-I felt that it was really simple to set up and it works well with everything I've connected to it (PS4, XBox 360, El Gato capture card, soundbar 2.1 system, universal remote).

-Take this with a grain of salt since this is the only 4k model I've ever owned, but the picture quality seems really good in terms of contrast and resolution.

The cons about Vizio models that I've seen in a number of places have to do with the awkwardness of a tablet remote, having no built-in tuner, the brightness being just passable (worse than the comparable Samsung), and the color gamut being just average or so (worse than the comparable Samsung).

Here are the box dimensions from Vizio's website...

                            67.72”W x 38.54”H x 8.94”D

If you sat it flat, the 38.5 inches wide should fit quite easily.

                              Dude....

You got the Vizio....and your profile pic is of the Cubbies....We are practically brothers now! LOL!

Thats awesome man....I was also SUPER close to pulling the trigger on the 70in M-series....The size was enticing me....Now you got my thinkin' if the 5 inches may add even more immersion. At Costco, the price of the 70 inch M is only a few bucks more than the 65 inch P....So it was a big debate point as well....

Great to hear that your enjoying your M! I feel like Vizio is really steppin' up their game and tryin' to really innovate. I guess their next step is to make a paper thin unit....But I will stick for now with the 'tank' built kind! LOL!

How's your 360 look on the M? I'm lookin' forward to hookin up the ole' 360 and puttin' in some time with All Pro Football 2k8!!

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

So to anyone that has bought a TV at Costco I have a question for you. The Samsung 55" KS8000 is now back up to $1,499.99 at Best Buy and pretty much everywhere else I look but when I go on Costco they have what is displayed as a KS800D model for $1,179.99. I can't seem to find anything online that gives a clear and concrete answer as to the difference but according to Samsung themselves the Costco models may contain refurbished internal parts unlike the 8000 series sold at locations like Best Buy etc. First, does this sound even close to being a possibility? Are Costco TV's, at least Samsung, slightly stripped down versions of the mainstream versions sold at Best Buy, Amazon etc? Here are direct links to both if anyone can figure out if there is a major difference or not, saving $300+ would be ideal but not at the detriment of quality.
