I have the X930E and yes, it does kind of suck watching cable. I have Comcast, the best box they have available, have the settings within the box to show the best possible output...But a lot of channels are underwhelming for sure. And yea, nothing you can really do about it. I'm pretty sure Comcast only feeds their cable at a certain resolution, so watching it on these awesome TVs can't really save it. For cable, I think you're better off with an older TV that maxes at 1080p. Sucks to say that, but it seems to be the cold hard truth at least as of right now.

Some channels are ok. Watching the Vikings/Saints game last night, it looked awesome. Watching a random college football game on say ESPNU though, doesn't even compare. It looks like garbage haha.

PS4 Pro on my X930E looks amazing though. As do some of the shows I've streamed so far.

Hi with my experience in LED sector, I usually prefer LED screens or digital screens.

Good feedback thanks. I still have my plasma that's 1080p, but that's going in my bedroom and will mainly be a Netflix machine.

I do plan to watch sports on my 4k tv. Do the lower res channels really look unwatchable?

Also, I have NBA league pass on my xbxo one X that I could stream over. Wonder if that looks better than satellite? (I have direct tv)

I have the Hisense H8C. Antenna channels looks fine. So it must vary by TV.

It will probably looks worse. I've never had a streaming sports station look better than it's cable or satellite counter part. YMMV.

I guess it just depends on who your cable/satellite provider is and what they broadcast their channels at. I live in Chicago, so all of the local HD channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX etc.) look much better than cable HD channels such as ESPN. I'm referring to sports too btw. Watching random TV, from what I've seen everything looks fine to really good.

When I do have down time, I pretty much game or watch sports. From the gaming side of things, I couldn't be more happy with this TV. From the watching sports side, I'm pretty underwhelmed. But I'll color that to the fact that I have Comcast cable, so I'll blame them for that. Because the TV itself is awesome.

When baseball season starts, I'm going to attempt streaming a game through MLB.tv on my TV and see how that looks compared to watching a game on say MLB Network and compare the two.

At the recommendation of my old boss, I just bought a 65" Sony Bravia X850E, my first TV purchase. Had the features I wanted - 4K, HDR, high refresh rate, low input lag for gaming, size - for a reasonable price.

Someone tell me, who has no prior experience owning TVs, how good or bad of a purchase I just made.

I'm sure you'll be happy...honestly I personally find it hard to tell a lot of the differences with my eyes/ears, so following pretty good online recommendations will probably set you up well.

Are you satisfied when you watch it? If yes, then good purchase!

There are some slightly better TV's and some really cool new stuff like large-screen OLEDS, but in general, all the modern TV's from the major manufacturers are pretty nice.

I purchased a X900E at Christmas and also have Directv. Once I calibrated (rtings, quantum apotheosis on YouTube) things looked much better. Also I make sure I go into show info and check the video settings tab to see what the program is broadcasting in. The CFB playoffs, national championship game and the few NFL playoff games have looked great. Also I’ve watched tennis and hockey and they look beautiful.

On another note I almost bit the bullet on upgrading my Directv equipment for 4K content but what I was going to lose (my extra dave) vs gain (only one or two 4K channels) and reading forums it’s better to wait to upgrade.

I'm eligible for a free upgrade on my DTV equipment and taking it, not for the 4K though. It's because my HDD failed anyway, and this new Genie will allow you to record/watch up to seven channels at once (from the previous five) and it has 2TB of storage (instead of 1TB).

                        What is a "dave?"

Stupid auto correct. DVR. I have a older non-genie dvr and a genie dvr (first gen I believe). The new server allows only one dvr on the system.

Correct and it sucks. Not from a performance issue, but from a customer usability and backup. DTV/AT&T wants to go to a server for the whole home and clients at any locations. Its cheaper and easier to support, but sucks for customers.

If that 1 box fails, you lose all recordings and can't watch TV any where. So they better hope those servers don't fail much.

The problem is that of course they do fail. I've had it happened to me. And trust me - they don't care when you do lose recordings and whatever else you had on there, to say nothing of their lack of concern for you not being able to actually watch TV.
