How are you guys saving so much money?

I've wanted to do this but we only pay about $130 for both digital cable and roadrunner+ (TW). If I cut cable, I'd only save about $70/month. And that's not counting what I would have to start paying for Netflix, Hulu, etc.

Plus, I miss out on just about all my local sports aside from the NFL.

I can't make the numbers work.

That's pretty much my situation as well.

I only pay $80 a month, but got a special deal as a returning customer. That's for Cable/Internet/Phone.

B/c MLBTV, NBALP... all of these things black out local games - which is the one thing holding me back.

I think I would essentially save $50-$60 a month... not worth it for me, especially with DVR and two boxes.

My brolo (League reference!) has Fios and their monthly is $200 and change. But they also have all the HBO and Showtime channels... which are worthless to me right now.

That is certainly a big hang-up for me; I don't know if I could go without being able to watch Avalanche, Nuggets and Rockies games.

It would be worth it to save $60-70 a month (money's tight since I'm between jobs), so I'll just have to weigh things out and see ... I've yet to call DirecTV and see if they'll do anything if I threaten cancellation and switching to Dish Network since my contract with DirecTV is up, we're just month-to-month currently.

It was the worst thing about changing. But I'm a Yankee fan so whatever.
The issue though is my wife is a Giants fan. But she's more of a listening-to-gameday-radio-broadcasts-fan and saving money than being able to watch them on TV.

So yeah it was a concern but after a while without it now it's no big deal anymore.

I can't either. If I cut cable out the price of my internet goes up quite a bit since it's no longer bundled. Add the cost of Hulu+, Netflix, etc and I'm coming out ahead but not nearly enough to justify losing my local sports.

I suppose I should add I downgraded my internet.

Went from cable to DSL, but except for the rare occasion when three or more devices are streaming at once, We really don't notice much of a difference.

So I cut the services. Now Internet is $50, Netflix $8 and Hulu $8.

Easily $100 saved per month.

How anyone got deals out of cable is beyond me because they never gave a crap about me.

Yes I don't have my local games but I'm missing over 50% of games anyway because I work through them and if I do want to watch, I have the Internet to take care of that for me.

$100 is not worth watching them in a large HD screen. Not for me at least.

Pared- I went from $135/mo for cable/internet to $40/mo for cable

I don't watch much TV and I bought a $40 antenna to get me the network channels.

So over the course of a year that about $1,100 I'm not spending. It's a significant amount to me for sure.

I'm a huge supporter of Netflix, but I've been impressed with what Amazon Prime offers.

Really, if Prime had an app for the PS3, I'm not sure I'd need Netflix (except that Netflix will have its own shows soon so I guess that's a reason to stick around).

I take this back. Prime doesn't have Party Down. Deal breaker in getting rid of Netflix for it.

I do still like the free book per month. Just gotta crunch the numbers and see if it makes sense.

I think we're going this route once our satellite contract expires.
I'll get the HD antennae and use CinemaNow for movies and TV shows.
I'm also thinking of getting Apple TV so if I want to watch baseball I can get Extra Innings.

If there were a way to get Fox Sports Detroit in Canada, I'd love to hear it.
That alone would be worth the satellite bill.

That's insane.

I have cablevision. We left for FIOS and FIOS got to about $140 a month for all 3.

I didn't mind. I loved the service.

Cablevision kept calling and bothering, gave them a listen.

Now, for all 3, I pay $78.82. And, they payed to cancel the contract with Verizon.

I'm sure my internet speeds are not the 'best,' but it is fine for what I need it for.

I understand it. I've become increasingly less enamored with the NFL. I've given up on the NBA years ago. MLB and NHL keep me enthralled still. MLB.tv is tough if you're in the blackout area (and I still don't get why they won't lift it.... they have to be running the numbers and seeing they're missing out on revenue; plus there are, lets say, ways to put whiteout on the blackout). Plus, I'm not a college sports fan.

Cable will need to get on board and go the way of Amazon, Hulu, etc., meaning a la carte. Always wanted this and as cable cos. see more and more customers leave, they may be pushed to do this.
