    Re: Getting rid of cable?

I Ditched cable myself last year, we basically have the same stuff as you, including three kids.

Right now we're netflix exclusive (TV Shows up to last season on most although SNL has been updating the day after airing) and anteanna for local channels. CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC, etc... And MLB.TV on the PS3 of course, but we don't get the SF Giants games. That's the one HUGE drag in the whole ordeal.

But tbh nobody has noticed. My kids stay occupied with everything netflix has to offer, and it seems as long as my wife has access to Dog the bounty hunter (also netflix) she's a happy camper.

And I no longer have my 180.00 cable bill.

I just wish we could get in market sports teams, but oh well.
Chefdad, what is your total monthly cost now?

When you say mlb.tv through the PS3, what do you mean through the PS3? I know it has a webbrowser function, is that how you're viewing it, through the web browser or is there some disc you get like Netflix? Are the games in HD? how much do you pay for mlb.tv?

Are you guys paying for Netflix's base plan, or are you doing the HD upgrade package? How much are you paying for that?

Are you doing Hulu as well? And how much are you paying for that?

We're just doing basic cable for local HD programming and internet from our provider.

before we paid 220.00 for everything, phone internet cable. Now I pay (including netflix) 70.00. 10.00 for netflix. 60.00 for internet and phone. that doesn't include what I'm going to pay for MLB.TV though.

It's just like netflix is now. No disc needed. It has it's own dedicated icon under vidoes. The only prob is no out of market games. But I'm a Yankee fan so whatev .
They say the games are in HD but I wouldn't say they're the same quality as cable was, but they don't look bad at all so it's all good.
I don't know the annual subscription price yet. I paid for it monthly last year. 19.99 But I'll just be buying the entire year this time around.

Yeah base plan 9.99. 1 DVD out at a time and instant streaming as long as you want. We don't have the blu-ray upgrade, we're fine with watching movies on DVD.

My Kids watch Hulu on our PC. They watch the commercial added Hulu so it's free. I've yet to check out Hulu tbh so I don't know too much about it myself.

We had all cable channels so it was a bit too much, then when we wanted to downgrade it wasn't enough to really matter so I told comcast to just come and pull it. We use an antenna for all our local channels now.
Good luck UM. The one thing I miss most is the sports. Especially NBA now that I'm into NBA2K but it's worth it not having the big bill anymore.

If it wasn't for the NFL season (and live sports in general) I would have NO PROBLEM living without a TV service.

Exactly how I feel! Come baseball season I really miss it but then I look at all the money I am saving each month by not having cable and it makes it worth it.

It depends on what you are looking for but I just picked this up last weekend http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2103077

I had a bit of a challenge going in being that I am in a south facing first floor condo. So I needed an interior antenna. Being south facing I am in the opposite direction of all the main channel signals but using this antenna I was able to receive most of the channels I wanted.

Yeah Baseball is the sport I really didn't want to go without. When MLB and Sony made the deal to put MLB.tv on the PS3 it solidified my decision.

I have thought about getting that but I would still be SOL when it came to White Sox games being that they are my home market.

Hm.....you guys don't know sites to catch your games? I've been able to watch Buccaneers games that way. I figure just hooking it up to the TV would solve that. But yea, I canceled the cable today and upgraded my internet. I go from paying $100 a month to $30 a month. Just downloaded netflix for the first time and WOW!!! This is amazing.

I've been looking for sites that show local market baseball games but can't find any. Oh well always have gameday audio.

                        Re: Getting rid of cable?

Has anybody used a Monoprice amplified antenna http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...09&cp_id=10901and if so could speak to how well/poor it works? Every other Monoprice product I've used has been great so I would assume these work pretty good as well.

Is an indoor amplified antenna going to outperform a larger antenna such as the "coat hanger" antenna or other similar models featured on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...e+antenna&aq=0

There are ways to watch live streaming sports on the internet for free. I will not post them, but you can find them easily if you google them.

                            I pay $50/mo for internet/netflix.

I was paying $145 before lol. No brainer for me!
