    Alcatraz (from producer J.J. Abrams)

It was announced back in September that J.J. Abrams along with Lost Executive Producer Elizabeth Sarnoff were shopping a pilot script written by Sarnoff for a new series entitled "Alcatraz."

The series will follow a group of prison guards and inmates who mysteriously disappeared from the infamous San Francisco prison and reappear in the present day as a team of FBI agents attempts to track them down and unravel the mystery behind their disappearance thirty years prior.

Lost alum Jorge Garcia (Hurley) has snagged the lead role as Dr. Diego Soto, an expert on the prison and island.

Not much else is known about the series but that it would be a mystery drama.

Fox has picked up the pilot.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

If it is on Fox it will be gone in a year.......It is only so much you can show on regular tv. The best prison series of all time was Oz on Showtime.

True, but there hasn't been many of them.

The only real disappointment for me is how the show has kind of already revealed what it wants to tell us. So wait, are they planning on riding out 40 episodes before revealing one of the character's backgrounds?

One of the many things I don't like about these kinds of shows. This is why I can dig House week-in and week-out, as they have a case every episode.

We'll see how this does or if it hooks me. I love most movies that Abrams is associated with, even though I didn't watch Lost.

More than likely the prison setting won't be as important. It won't be Oz. What you will get is the slow reveal behind their disappearance. Then whatever caused it will likely be responsible for the bulk of the mystery moving forward.

The actual prison is shut down so I'm not sure there will be too much going on in there unless it's heavy on flashbacks like Lost.

can't agree with that. Too many stellar ones currently on the airwaves.

Even though everyone is right when they say that it will mostly likely barely live to see year 2, I'm going to let Fox break my heart once again.

Fringe is going to get to have at least four years even though the ratings have been mediocre, so there is at least the possibility of it hanging around for a while.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I'm going to try my hardest to resist all these new shows. I can't deal with any more crushing disappointments every spring when the shows my wife and I love are killed.
