Did you put Go to Sleep on there? Add those 3 songs and I really like this album (which is what I did for my ipod). Call me crazy but I actually like I Don't Wanna Care....but I'm not a big fan of State Run Radio and Out of My Head. Break the Chain, and Coming up is alright but I really like Letting Go, Till I get there, and Beautiful Lasers.

Re: Official Lupe Fiasco L.A.S.E.R.S. Thread
Man I HATED tracks 3, 4 and 5 but other than that everything is pretty damn good. It's not usual Lupe, which isn't really a good thing but this album isn't TERRIBLE by any means. But it is not up to the standards I expect from my favorite rapper.
Although another song CAN'T be bad...otherwise it'll be hard for me to even think of it as good when 1/3 of the album isn't even alright...
But man...this album had potential, but it did not live up to it...songs like 2 Ways, Coming Up, Letting Go, Words I Never Said and All Black Everything are great, maybe it could have been all like those (along with songs like Show Goes On, I'm Beamin' and Shining Down) if it weren't for all these problems :/.
Edit: Just saw the bonus tracks...so I guess this album could take another bad track if you include those.Comment

I think that's what F&L 2: The Great American Rap Album is supposed to be, but I'm not 100% on that or if it's even going to turn out that way. Right now it could be "his" album, but once he completes it or is close to completing it, the label could probably pull the same ****.
It could depend on the sales of LASERS too, but again, I'm not completely sure.
I think that was the biggest shock. We hear all the singles and pre-release stuff and think, "if this is Lupe's definition of 'pop', I can dig it, the B-Side of the album can only be better". Then we get that MDMA/Trey crap as the "rest of the album". Big letdown. Still, aside from the clunkers, the album continues to grow on me.

I guess we have to agree to disagree here. First of all, I don't think it's a bad album. Second, Lupe gets compared to himself, which while fair, means the bar is much higher. It gets even higher still due to the hype.Comment

Re: Official Lupe Fiasco L.A.S.E.R.S. Thread
It'll be interesting to see how this album does commercially after the relatively poor success of the first single:
"The Show Goes On" has peaked at number 44 on the Billboard Hot 100, 61 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and 21 on the Hot Rap Songs chart. In Australia, it peaked at number 19 on the Australian Singles Chart, while on the Irish Singles Chart it has peaked at number 27Comment

If this album flops nothing good can come out of it for Lupe. He has been given every chance to succeed on a mainstream level. The only problem is I honestly don't think he has it in him to make a true commercial hit. Best case for him would be to end up on Good Music and start messing with Kanye again.Comment

If he could make music for his real fans with no intrusions, I think he would. While I think he would love to reach a broader audience (most artists actually want to "sell out"), he doesn't want to compromise who he is to obtain that goal. Hence the suicidal ideations. In an ideal world, he'd make music his way, tour a lot and try to reach people as much as he can, and just live his life making music and performing. It's hard when the machine has a different agenda.Last edited by Streets; 03-01-2011, 01:35 AM.Comment

If Child Rebel Soldier ever actually comes to pass he'll probably be fine. That's his better window to any mainstream success than his solo ventures.HELLO BROOKYLN.

Agreed Streets , you said it better then me.
My problem with the album isn't the production like most people I know. Honestly my problem is with Lupe himself as an artist. I think he dropped the ball with this album. He has been bashing this album from the get go and you can't do that. I am a huge Lupe fan but you can't bash your label like that.
The label has given this guy so many chances to 'blow up". Yes he stays on this rage against the machine steez. Sorry but I see Lupe as the next Joe Budden to me. Brilliant artist that will never cross over to the mainstream. Break The Chain being the prime example(and dropping the ball on having Trey Songs on a track).Comment

Someone made a good point about eminem, he manages to hit home runs in pop/rap singles that sell his album then the album itself has all the the great rape on it. He just somehow has to follow that same blueprintSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Official Lupe Fiasco L.A.S.E.R.S. Thread
Ratings for each song, from my iTunes list:
5 stars:
Letting Go
Words I Never Said
The Show Goes On
Beautiful Lasers
State Run Radio (Streets is right ... this song goes hard, especially that hook)
All Black Everything
Never Forget You
4 Stars:
Till I Get There
Break The Chain
3 Stars:
I Don't Wanna Care Right Now
Out Of My Head
Coming Up
Can't say I'm a huge fan of those 3 star songs I listed. They're not terrible by any means, but just have nothing really going for them. Generally, I like the album, though it's flawed and not as good as his other two. It's too short, there's no Matthew Santos, and the a little too much autotune. I think when I listen to this, I'm going to add Shining Down and I'm Beamin. Maybe Go to Sleep. That'll extend the album and bit, and I love those songs too. So combine all those and it's a good album to me. Not quite what I was expecting, but I did see the label interference coming, so it is what it is. Still hyped for that Premium pack bundle with the t-shirt thoughComment

Re: Official Lupe Fiasco L.A.S.E.R.S. Thread
I'm a little confused why a song like The Show Goes On hasn't really blown up. When I first heard it I thought it would do really well commercially. It was catchy and it was a good song that the Lupe fans would like. And like others said I thought that would be the pop song they used to get people hooked, and then the rest of the album would be either similar, or more traditional Lupe. But no. I don't know what purpose some of these songs really serve. Haven't been used as singles, if they do end up being used I don't think any of them are catchy enough to blow up. Just really weird, because the 2 songs he said were forced on him I like, I don't know what the reason is for a song like I don't want to care right now.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Official Lupe Fiasco L.A.S.E.R.S. Thread
Same here. The first time i heard it i thought that it was the song that could/should blow up for Lupe and it did mediocre at best. I guess with artist's like Souja Boy going to number 1 and artists like Lupe struggling to crack the top 40 I know very little about what the average rap fan considers good music these days.Comment
